You may remember how my dd had her apple taken of her as it was red.
well this morning she told me that yesterday they took her sandwiches of her because they had ham on. They gave her a cooked school lunch instead.

The reason I found out about this was that dd did not want to go to school today, when I asked her why she said that she did not want to eat quiche again as she did not like it. she than asked me just to put fruit in her lunch box and no sandwiches so they would not give her a school dinner.

So now my 4 year old dd who has only been in school for a couple of months is going in to school worrying about her lunch so much so that she wanted to stay at home.

this is just not acceptable :sad2: i cant remember the outcome last time but if it was me i would be seeing the head teacher immediatly, and contacting the local paper :sad2:

WHY?!?!?! :confused3

sorry I missed the post re the apple so completely in dark on that one but surely an apple is an apple whether it's red, green or yellow :confused3

and Ham?! what on earth could they have against ham!

Hope you get them sorted out for your DD's sake as well as all the other poor kids who have suffered the gestapo lunchtime brigade!

The apple was crazy but HAM! I am sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. What a shame her start to life at school has been so affected by this - I can imagine how my Molly would handle all this and I think your little one is taking it well ;)

Sending hugs to you and your DD :grouphug:

This is incredible ~ Your DD has to eat something that she doesn't like or go without because of ham in a sandwich. I would be having a word with the Head about this one.

I agree with everyone on here, they have no right to remove a child's lunch ~ and whatever is wrong with ham. If it was me. I'd be straight up the school. Good luck with trying to get it sorted out

That is appalling! I would contact the head and the local paper.

I agree with everyone else, but contact a NATIONAL paper, with all the furore about kids not wanting school lunches its a topical item. Also, they gave your child quiche - do they know how much cholesterol and saturated fat there is in that???? its certainly NOT a health food.

This is disgusting! I would make as much fuss as possible. It really can only be described as bullying!

If the sandwich was taken from your DD only because it was ham, then this is ridiculous. Also the fact that is meaning that your DD does not want to go to school is very wrong.

I would be careful though before make a big issue about this because when my DD came home very upset with a very similar story it turned out that she had missed out a few very important facts. She told me the dinner lady just through her sandwich in the bin and made her have a school lunch. What she forgot to say was that the girl sitting next to her had spilt her drink which had gone on her sandwich. My DD did not think this was a problem and did not understand why her sandwich went in the bin. Once it was explained to me I understood but was still angry that they had not explained this properly to my daughter, leaving her very upset.

I hope that whatever the story is you manage to get it sorted out.

I too agree with everyone else that this is an unacceptable situation. Just out of interest, what is permitted to have in a sandwich at your DD's school? :confused3

I don't know, I have not been told. :confused3
we just received a letter to say that treats like biscuits should be occasional.

I will be writing a letter to the head teacher, as my main concern is that dd did not want to go to school over this. I think that maybe she thought she had done something wrong and thought that she was being punished.

that is ridiculous whatever next,Hope you manage to sort it out

Is the school saying then that a sandwich is a biscuit :thumbsup2 I have just finished eating a lovely salad sandwich that contained tons of nutrients and 2 grams of fat :thumbsup2

Still cannot understand why they would take away your DDs sandwich in fabour of quiche. Which is full of fat not only in the eggs but the pastry and the bacon

This is getting ridiculous. Good luck with sorting it out. Just how many lunch boxes do they look in every day?

:furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: .....and the person who is policing these decisions is probably on a big fat salary tucking into chocolate and burgers all day!!!

Sorry, I can't say anything else otherwise I might be banned from these boards!! :furious: :furious: :furious:

I still can't believe what i've read. Taking an apple and ham off a 4 year old girl! :confused3

Agreed, bottom this out with the school... Personally I wouldn't waste time with letters, I would phone and ask to speak to someone or phone for an appointment to speak to someone...

If the school has a food policy, then they should have it in writing and give a copy to all parents.

I can understand not having TOO much ham - since the salt content is relatively high. BUT they probably put at least as much salt in the quiche. AND, as others have pointed out, the fat and cholesterol content of the quiche would definitely outweigh that. A ham sandwich is healthy that so many alternatives :thumbsup2

The apple thing is just MAD! An apple a day is a very healthy thing to do :thumbsup2

I have heard about other schools getting tighter with chocolate, sweets, biscuits and crisps and I think that is a good thing: an occasional treat is fine - two packets of crisps, a chocolate bar and a bag of sweets every day is mad (and not that uncommon!).

Good luck getting to the bottom of this :)

Hi

Thats wrong. I agree with Boo I would not waste anytime on writing. I would phone the school secretary and ask for an appt with the head. This is taking healthy eating to another level. Sounds like whoever is taking the food away is on a major power trip. Thats unacceptable.

I am actually a dinner lady at a primary school and i just can't understand what your daughters school is doing. What is wrong with them? If a child doesn't like what their parents have put them (and believe me some of the concoctions they put i would like to see the parents eat them Yuk) we either try and take it off the bread or offer them an alternative. We would never stop them eating apples we encourage fruit and ham is fine a lot of our children eat it, infact Alison our cook serves up ham to have with salad for the children who stay cooked dinners. We have a set menu for each day set out by the powers that be and to be quite honest we have more waste now than when the cook controlled what she wanted to cook :confused3
