Hello there! Can anybody shed any light on when American kids have there school holidays? My family are going to Florida on 11th June 2006 and a friend of ours who lives in Chicargo has told us that his chilidren break up for school holidays on 6th June for 11 weeks!! We are a little bit concerned as we have planned this holiday for quite a while and with the advice of our travel agent booked to go at this time. If anyone can shed any light on this school holiday situation it will be gratefully received.

Thank You

Hi there,

Yes that sounds about right to me (and I am sorry that is probably not the answer you are hoping for), though it differs across states a lot of US schools have gone "back" by mid-August.

There are lots of tactics to cope with crowds though :)

Welcome to th Dis :thumbsup2

Our DD is done with school on June 6.

As far as crowds I would be at the chose park when it opens, take a break or lunch around 1 or 2 when it gets really busy. And then I would avoid the extra magic hours as I think it would bring more people into the park since it is open later. So if extra magic hour that night is at MK, I would not go to MK that day but go else where,

Also try Tour Guide Mike, he was really helpful for us even though it was December!

rest asured that not everone who has kids in america (thinking of kim wilde) will be at the parks. The june period starts to pick up but the parks are made to cope with it.Also you will be in the hot and humid time of the year.So enjoy, stay cool (with aircon) and relax dont let the thought of mass croweds spoil your holiday. You will have fun

Thank You for all your advice, we are looking forward to it soooo much and it will be our first time in Florida, 3 weeks and 3 days to go! Yipee :cool1:

Hi Figgins!

Looks like your mate in Chicago was right then?

It still cant possibly be as busy as if you were going during "peak" times, Easter, Christmas etc.

If I were you guys, I'd have the fortnight pretty well planned then, on what parks to visit on what days, plus what rides you can "do without" when you are there.

At WDW there are benefits for those staying in a WDW hotel, they open the parks early and close them late for those residents. As you are not staying onsite, avoid those particular parks on those days.

Your boys may not want to ride "Its a Small World" (which they probably rode in Disneyland Paris anyway) but they WILL want to do the Buzz Lightyear ride. Work out your "definites" before you go, then if you have time you can do other rides.

Ask loads of questions on these boards, everyone is so helpful. And dont worry about all the abbreviations - you WILL learn what they all mean!!! I couldnt make head nor tail of some of the posts when I first joined but now its like a second language!!

"Have you booked any ADR's for you and your DS's - you MUST do the FDP - are you using DME - the CM was brilliant!" - This will make perfect sense to you in no time at all!!!!!!

Sending lots of Pixie Dust to you guys!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Happy Planning Figgins!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Blimey Lorraine! Did'nt understand any of the end bit!!! LOL

Sure we will get it eventually?!?!?! :

You were right, I'm hooked already! :surfweb:

It is true, our school schedules here are ridiculously archaic. They are remnants of a time when children were needed as laborers in the farm fields from planting to harvest. Now our little "farmhands" go to day camp and play outside all summer long. There are many reasons the school schedule hasn't been adjusted (nostalgia and teachers' unions come to mind) but most school districts still take the summer off.

As the others have said, you will be fine if you can do a little research and come up with a plan of attack. I hope you enjoy our country!

Just to let you know, most southern schools let out much earlier for the summer holidays. My 2 DD's last day of school is May 24th. We are in Tennessee. My nephew goes to school in South Carolina. His last day of school is May 26th. :teacher:
