school~drop off/pick up lanes vents

Is there any reason why a parent has to use this lane as the dining room? One parent always lets their kid eat whatever for about 5 minutes until they get out of the car. They will be parked right in front, while Jr. is eating his hash rounds while everybody is else is waiting to get out of the parking lot

Mine is just the ones that think the rules apply to everyone but them.

My DD's nursery school (way back when) had a specific plan in place for pick up and drop off. Enter in one driveway, wait in line, drop off kids or pick up kids and move on,leave from a scond driveway....no parking, no taking the kids into the building...there were teachers there that did that. There were always parents that as soon as they got to the front of the line had to get out of the car and walk their child into the building...meanwhile those of us that followed the rules and walked our child to the teacher and got back in our cars had to wait for them to come back out. The way the drop off area was set you could get around the car if they pulled up furthur...but no, they had to park closer to the door and that left no room to get around them.

tee hee! Our drop off lane is actually dangerous it wouldnt be if parents would calm down instead of driving like mario andretti. Ours you pull up to the curb right in front of the school to let the kids out now in our van my 3 year old DS is on the passenger side so my oldest has to get out on the drivers side. As do a lot of kids at our school well we have some parents that might be at the back of the line so they decide to pull into the left side of the lane and FLY up to the front! I am always looking behind us before I let my DS out of the car! When it is clear he leaps out and runs around the front of our car onto the sidewalk! The other morning a little girl getting out of her moms car almost got hit!!! Because another parent wanted to get to the front of the line my theory is a few minutes is not gonna kill you! I also agree when you get the car that just sits there and sits there and your wondering what are they doing??? knitting a blanket!!!

Parking in the drop off lane!!! We have one parent who consistently does this. It drives me insane.

1) Your child is not going to be kidnapped in the twenty feet between the curb and the door of the school, surrounded by teachers, students, parents, the crossing guard,etc.

2)If you insist on walking your kid into the school, fine park in a freaking parking place, not in the drop off lane.

She's been told over and over again not to do it, and she just ignores it. I fantasize about smashing her windows or having her towed or something.

Maybe you should say something to the school. They could implement a policy that if the kids aren't ready to get out of the car, they should park in a parking space until they're done. Either that or I would lay on the horn.

Oh YEAH, slowpokes in the AM kiss & ride...one of my pet peeves, too.
Sounds like some parents(note the more than one implication?) need to have a talk with the PTA/principal/school administrators about appropriate K&R etiquette.

Earlier this week at my DD's school in the morning right in front of us there was a dad who took his time, had a big conversation with his kid, then she got out of the car & got her instrument out of the back, then he had to talk to her some more!!! Meanwhile, DD has been out of my car for at least 30 seconds & there are people waiting behind me who can't let their kids out yet.

(Hmmmm, this all reminds me...I have to call up the school safety officer myself about how FAST some drivers are going in the parking lot. Some of these folks have to be going at least 25 or 30 when the posted speed limit is 15.)

Hey - even in HS, parents dropping off kids act like they don't know "the rules". What's with dropping kids off in the left lane?! The left lane is for driving through. At this HS, you can drop them off at any point in a large horsehoe-shaped area, then drive by (carefully) on the left. sheesh!!

But in the afternoon everyone wants to be as close as possible to the front door- and of course the people that do get those spots are the ones who go over and chat with a friend, and leave their car there for 10 minute after school's been let out, so other people are trying to squeeze. The principal sends home reminder letters at least once a month!

So my kid almost always takes the bus!

We get little notes all the time mostly about drop off. Amazing how parents can't even follow something for the safety of the kids. We also have the breakfast eaters in line and the ones that sit there while the child slowly walks to the door...like something might happen between the sidewalk and front door.

Than they wonder why the cops show up and start writting tickets.

Our Pick up and drop off lane is the one way street that wraps around the school property. So for afternoon pick up every gets in line EARLY and waits for school to get our. Well there is always SEVERAL parents who come up a side street and cut to the front of the line.

Why do they think they are so special that they can cut the line when the rest of the parents have been waiting for 15-20 mins to get a good place in line.

MAN THAT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!

And it is the SAME people every day that do it.

At the beginning of the school year they go over how the drop off and pick up is supposed to work. And it is even clearly shown in the school calendar that each parent gets.

My son rides the bus this year but last year he was a carrider. The school's system works pretty well I think. The only pet peeve I had was those who decided one very large parking space was not enough for them. Most of the Kindergarten parents walk their children to the door in the morning. (I only did if I had to park way out of sight from the door, a few hundred feet and around a corner) I never saw any angry parents or unfortunate incidents so I guess we were lucky. We did have the occasional line cutter (Not sure if this they were rude or just clueless) or parent who fell asleep waiting. (But the bus is alot easier and he was dying to ride it.)

The ones who think the rules are for everyone but them!!

2 issues at DD's school:

1. We are supposed to pull to the front of the drop off area 4 or 5 cars can fit easily). There are 2 or 3 teachers who help direct traffic in the morning. One morning, I was the 2nd car in the "batch" and the car in front of me stops right in front of the gates to let her kid out. She couldn't be bothered to pull up so that the rest of us could let our kids out. Then she sat there blocking traffic while she watched her daughter walk in. When she left, I was waved to the front of the drop off lane, and I went. While my DD was getting out, the teacher thanked me for following directions.

2. Impatient parents who find it necessary to drive down the outside (driver's side) of the cars becasue their kid got out of the car already. I always make sure my daughter is ready to get out of the car before we pull up to the drop off area so we don't hold up traffic, but I won't pull out to go around a car in front of me.
