I was in the Neighborhood Wal Mart this weekend and found a wonderful SB tool.
For 7 years my DH and I have done almost exclusively digital for our WDW trips. Well I would look at them on my computer but was kind of a hassle printing out- even on our photo printer. Also, I was concerned about how the colors would hold up. Therfore I was very far behind on my scrapbook pages. I had read about the online photo places but I am too impatient.
Well ... problem solved this weekend while I popped in to get some sugar.
There is a Fuji machine back in the film developing area. It takes a ton on media options. Basically I went home and burned all of the "good" pictures on to a CD and took it over there. Simple, just slide in CD ROM and up on the screen come the pictures. You can edit, red-eye reduction, zoom in or out, etc. Then you just select the images you want and come back in an hour and you have perfect pictures.
It is only $.29 each. That is the same price for 1 hour file developing and you don't have to print out all of the ones that you do not want, and you can edit them.
I printed 5 out to test and they look great!
They print out w/ a matte finish.
I happened to be in Super WalMart later in the day (Yeah, I love Wal- Mart) and could not find anything except the Kodak Photo Maker.
Hope this helps someone!

Did these machines only accept a CD? At the present time, I don't have a CD burner.

I thought maybe you could just insert your flashcard that you use in your digital camera.

Yes, They accept almost every variety of media i.e. flash cards, diskettes, CD's, etc. It is easier for me to copy them to the computer and use my monitor to decide if a picture is scrapworthy and then copy to whatever to get it there to print out.
My DH said next time we would edit the pictures at home and then just take there to print out. We have many more editing options on our computer than they have and I felt bad going through 90 pictures while the line was forming behind me.
The word seems to be out for the little machines.

Cool --- but just remember... the more times a photo file is editied, saved, copied..... it looses quality. So start with the original file ---- and don't play with it TOO much!

Our Wal-Mart has this too and I've been wanting to try it out. Our's even has a flatbed scanner too. Thanks for the report.

You can also download your pictures to Walmarts site. Print them out and have them delivered to your local Walmart for free - or have them shipped to your house. I was very pleased with the quality of the prints I received.

buzz5985- Can you please give me the pricing and timeframe for that option as well?

26 cents per 4 x 6 print. I think it takes 4 - 5 days. I don't really remember. Sorry. Free shipping if delivered to your local walmart.

My 1st order - I ordered 100 prints. I think I overwhelmed them. Because the order was not done. I emailed customer service, told them of the problem. They corrected it. and gave me a free 2nd set of prints!!!! So after that I ordered smaller amounts at a time and never had a problem. I only pick up the pictures if I am visiting Walmart - I don't make a special trip, so I am not sure how many days it actually takes. Sorry.

I've used the Fuji machine at Walmart too, but just with prints (using scanner bed) and have been VERY happy with it! I prefer the matte finish to the Kodak Picture Makers glossy finish. It was really a cinch to use!

Just a little FYI -

Most Costco Wholesale One Hour Photo Labs offer the same service now, especially the newer buildings. And they are cheaper...about .20 cents per print.

:)

I just logged onto www.costco.com and clicked on photo center. You can order prints online as well. They are .24 per photo. I can't wait to try them out.

I just placed an order thru www.shutterfly.com to see how I like their services. The pictures are on the way. I want to order from:

* Walmart Online - .26
* Ofoto - .49
* Shutterfly - .49 (cheaper if you prepay - .39 or less)
* Costco - .24

Then compare the picture quality to what I spent. Not sure which company I will use on a continued basis. If anyone else has done this, let me know who you prefered for digital pictures.

I was so far behind on printing my pictures and had not been pleased with how they were turning out with my printing them. I have been using Walmart.com since last summer. I love to upload them, have them shipped to store and when I go get groceries, I pick my pictures up and I have already paid for them also. I have been very pleased with the quality. Just thought I would give my experience with them. I have not tried any of the other services.

Hi -

I haven't used any other service except Costco, I like their prices and the service I receive. :)

As for quality, I had received some photos from family in an email from vacation, I burned them to a CD and took them in, along with some photos I had scanned and had reprints made from the CD. They looked as good as the photos I get from my 35mm negatives. :):Pinkbounc

I had them printed with a matte finish (costco calls it lustre), I like it better since it doesn't show fingerprints as badly as glossy. I've also had them print them with a white border all the way around like Ritz does, you just have to ask. :)

:) Hope that helps.

Thanks. I'll have to try Costco next. The white border isn't anything that I need. I only print the pictures I want to use for scrapbooking and then I will be cropping them anyway.

After I tried all the online services, I will still be sure to post my results. May take me awhile though. I will soon be going to Disney for 2 weeks and want to make sure I get the best prints I can find to scrapbook.

My new Digital camera will sure get a work out. I even purchased a 512mb CF card so I can take about 40-50 pictures a day and I won't have to switch cards. I do have another 128mb card incase I get camera HAPPY... Hope I don't need it though.
