Say Goodbye to the Auction Scene in Pirates

I haven't read all the replies but want to point out that for the scene to be taken as seriously is ironic since glorifying pirates in the first place seems weird to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the ride, movies, etc., but when you think about it, pirates are thieves of the sea, why do we want our kids to emulate them? I like the ride the way it is, sad to see it changed.

Welll......did you know that Disneyland would never have happened...if not for a pirate.....for sure the first pirate in the Pacific Ocean, heck, was even credited with piracy ,...granted he did for the sake of change, change his ship's name from Pelican to Golden Hind....can we say Hind on this site?

That is why I was taught California History....to emulate pirates.

As a former Californian myself (born and lived there for 28 years) I think we can all agree that California is a strange place. So no surprises there. :earboy2:

4th grade, one room school house in Joshua Tree, learning about margins(cuts your reporting in half on all those pages) on lined paper when writing our reports about who inspires us about California discovery.....I thought, if David in the desk next to me can wear Beatles boots, then I can wear that Dutch Master Cigar costume i see on those tv cigar smoking commercials and the bright pretty label Grandpa cigar box.. was grandpa a pirate,???? because those dutch folks were mean in Africa....anyhow..it took 4 decades before dressing like pirate became fashionable.....thanks to Jerry Seinfield......oh, no....I am sitting here.....doing nothing.

For me, it's not so much about history, but Disney history. PotC is iconic in everyway. The characters. The script. If we take away "We wants the Red Head" for PC reasons or "offensive" reasons, do we then take away "Of course, there's always MY way" because suicide is such a terrible destroyer in our society (and I'd say far worse than human trafficking)? Do we take away "Let your conscience be your guide" because the moral relativistic society we've created has deemed that societal relativism should be my guide? If we take this out, if we cross this line, where is the stopping point? Is anything off limits?

Maybe this is too over-the-top, but it seems to fit the situation. Wisdom and warning: "When the first link of the chain is forged, the first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
The source of this quote may be a little silly, but the words are timely for our discussion and maybe even our society.

Walt was all about change. So many things I used to love about Disneyland are now gone. And that's ok. It's not my park. But I still go and it still makes me happy. For those complaining about the change - were you also complaining when they added the movie characters? Jack Sparrow is definitely about "synergy" and not at all about "history.
.
Actually I hated the addition of Jack sparrow personally.

I can only judge this change as better or worse after it's been implemented. The new scene sounds just as fun as the old. It's a Disney Park ride, designed for entertainment. None of it is supposed to be historically accurate in the first place. Erasing history is burning textbooks, tearing down museums, or magically destroying the internet. A Disney Park ride's got nothing to do with it.

So do I. Even called and complained when I found out. Lol like It mattered. I had been told by a cm it had been in the planning for 3 years before the announcement had been made officially. :(
I'm telling you, I really am having a hard time attempting to enjoy DLR like I use to. I just can't seem to pull it off. Just too many changes that ruffle me feathers to the point of looking like a naaked chicken. Lol ;( :(

Exactly. So Disneyland should leave it ALONE!

Oh i so agree. And i was born and raised here. Still here.....but.. ..tbh a nice little house in LA or Texas, is actually affordable and realistic, but California real estate well :faint: In my area one of my most favorite homes since I was a kid, had a asking price of $895,000. Hmm sure let me just pull that out of my ......Anyway....it's small too, no land, no pool. SMH Maybe one day....probably not. :(

Jumping in here way late but I have been reading along. I'm kind of indifferent to the whole thing. I understand why they would want to get rid of it but I personally wouldn't care if it stayed. I also do not care if they change it. It's not detrimental to the ride imo and I'm sure I'll like it just the same. I'm one of those people that doesn't really care when they change things though. I like seeing change and progress. I love when new things are introduced and don't even mind if and when beloved rides are changed. I'd be interested to see what kind of change could happen to a ride that might actually make me upset about it.

I will take a stab...

Bulldoze CarsLand because cars cause global warming?
Remove all references in POTC ride to: theft, burning towns, gun violence, torture (waterboarding the mayor)

LOL....well.....Our trip to DL/CA is coming up so I actually haven't been yet and while I'm sure that CarsLand is going to be really awesome, I've never really cared for the Cars movies. It's one of my least favorite Pixar movies and my family had to practically drag me to see the latest one. So yeah CarsLand being replaced with something else probably wouldn't bother me that much. Especially since WDW is more of our home park than DL/CA. Although maybe we'll love it out there so much we'll make more of an effort to go there more.

As for the other....if they replace it with other cool stuff, why not?

I'm just a super easy going person. And very adaptable (I'm an army brat who went to 11 different schools from K-12....believe me, I know how to go with the flow!) I don't get upset that often especially about things as insignificant as ride changes. Disney does a fantastic job imo no matter what they do so I'm sure whatever they replace something with would be just as fun.

That quote may be Interpreted as one cares to do so. To me, it doesn't mean let's screw up the original POTC!

Well the most logical plan would be to modernize it. Make Disneyland free admission, but convert the ride to make it Pirates of Somalia. The ride would be mandatory before entering the park. The pirates would hijack the boats and hold passengers for ransom. In order to free your family and friends, you would be charged $129 per person. Additional ransom would be charged if they wanted to park hop. Once the ransom was paid, guests would be allowed to enter the rest of the park.

Too damned funny!

Carsland is going to great, it is joni mitchell in reverse song, they tore down a parking lot and built paradise!!!!!!

but you better hurry, there is a lawsuit in San Bernardino county court to ban Carsland, teens are being inspired by the high speed dips without any consequences and traveling to Yucca Valley and doing the huge high speed drops north of Yucca on old woman springs road, if you thought Splash drop was scary..wait till you try county road 247. Scared me more than splash!!!

.....but they could get the fast pass system for free?
