I thought it was hilarious! Lots of movie in-jokes, cameos, etc. It helps to have a twisted sense of humor!

It's rated R - how bad the language, etc.?

I would like to see it but the last rated R movie (the one w/Morgan Freeman, A. Jolie) was rated that for "some sexuality". Yikes, their definition of "some" was bent-over the kitchen counter action!

Oh, and I read somewhere that Tom Cruise had a cameo - he was unrecognizable (T. Thunder)

I use a site called kidsinmind.com to check for these things. The sex stuff was very minor and got a 5/10 on that site. violence/gore got a 7/10. language got a 10/10! I didn't take any kids so I didn't care--can't tell you the last time DH and I saw an R rated movie!
The site lists everything that anyone may consider objectionable.
I thought Cruise was recognizable but he does have a bald cap and fat suit and foul mouth!;)

I'm dying to see it, but I suggest adding a *spoilers alert* to the thread title. I didn't know about Tom Cruise...but it sounds great! Robert Downey Jr. looks hilarious in the trailer. Glad to hear the positive review!! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to see this movie....

Also Burn after Reading looks hysterical.:happytv:

I wouldn't say that posting the name of an actor who appears in a movie warrantes a spoiler alert.

Tropic Thunder is absolutely fantastic. Most definitely my favorite comedy of the year. I love Robert Downey Jr in this movie. Such a great role for him. It also completely turned me around on Tom Cruise, as I haven't been such a fan of his lately. It's completely hysterical seeing him as his character, and it was such a brave choice! It also made me take another look at Ben Stiller. He does a great job in this movie, and I think an even better job as a director. The first movie he's directed that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Oh, and Matthew McConaughey (sp?) is great in his role as well. I don't think I really had a problem with anyone in this movie at all. Definitely recommended!

I think Tom Cruise was meant as a cameo, but there's been so much talk about his character in the movie that the secret's kind of out. He's almost unrecognizable, but it's still pretty obvious that it's him. And I don't think I've ever heard him use so many 4-letter words in one film...the role is definitely new territory for Tom Cruise (and it's really funny!)

There are a few other cameos throughout the movie, so the movie is not totally spoiled for you if you just know Tom Cruise is in it.

The movie was hilarious. I saw it Friday night and loved it. It's just a really funny sendup of Hollywood, spoiled actors, and greedy studio execs. The whole audience I saw it with was in hysterics from pretty much the first scenes on.
