Well, we went to the Durham Bulls game last night. Clay arrived in a helicopter. They landed before we were let into the ballpark and they let him do a run through of the American Anthem. We could hear him singing as we waited in line. The helicopter took off with him after the trial run so that he could make an entrance again.
Got inside the ballpark, it is unseasonably hot for this time of year, 91 degrees, and we find that our seats are directly in the sun about a mile from the diamond, not really that far, but we knew that our view of Clay would not be that great.
I decided to go see if I could find a friend of mine that is an usher. Tracked her down between home base and third base. We chatted few minutes and I jokingly asked about seats on the shade. Well, since she works in the area for season passholders and knew who would not be there, she got us seats about 5 rows back from home base. I called my hubby on the cellphone, told him to hike it over to the other side of the field.
Helicopter arrives again, crowd goes wild, he steps out, says a few kind words about his fans and the experience, then he threw out the first ball of the game, signed some autographs, then he came out and sang the National anthem. Then he went to sign autographs etc.
We stayed long enough for one inning of the game, Bulls won by the way, and then headed for home. As we left, we passed the 5 stretch limos that were there for Clay.
This morning he has done an hour long television show, he did his feet backwards, did the weather and sat at the anchor desk the whole hour. He is currently on the radio for an hour-long show.
He has shared that next week that each contestant will sing 3 songs, one chosen by the contestant, one by the judges, and one they will draw the name out of a hat. He also said that they were not permitted to sing for anything other than the approved ones. They asked him to sing on the t.v. interview and he could not. He has a bodyguard and a Fox producer with him.
They did not send them home for Mothers day, as I had thought. They are returning to LA today. Clay said they leave here, fly to pick up Ruben in Alabama and then Kimberly in Nashville. He did not even stay at home with his Mom, they stayed in a hotel. Probably good so that folks don't mob his house.
So that is the scoop from Raleigh. This has been a lot of fun.
My hope for Clay, besides the obvious hope that he wins, is that he remains as grounded and down to earth as he is now.
