Saving Theater seats and CMs

There have been plenty of threads about rude guests saving seats in Walt Disney theater. I really don't want to open that one up again! But, I don't recall anyone ever recounting actual participation by a CM in a confrontation. So many posts say how it would be such help if a CM, for example, hung around the front rows before the show to enforce the common courtesy "no saving" rule they post in every Navigator.

So, my question…have you ever seen a CM help someone who wanted to sit in seats that were being "reserved" by other guests? Or is it always a mini-confrontation when someone chooses to sit in empty seats that another guest is trying to save for their party?

Yes, we have seen CM's get involved. If they are made aware of the situation they can let the "savers" know it is not permitted.

Same with photography in the shows...if they see it or made aware of it they will intervene.

We saw this every night on our recent cruise on the Fantasy.

Interesting…don't think I've ever noticed it! Maybe by the time we get there it's all sorted out? Was it always just quietly handled by the CM?

We had a family of seat-savers on our Fantasy cruise the first week of January. They always sent a tween boy to reserve like 8 or 9 seats close to the front. We always got there early enough that we were able to find our own seats with no problem, but I never saw a CM say anything to any of them.

I was on the wonder last week and witnessed a man in a white suit with stripes on the shoulder tell an older Asian gentleman that there was no saving of seats and directed a family to take the reserved spots.

Also witnessed the cast members running down the aisle to block photos being taken......it was more annoying then the picture being taken itself

I would venture a guess that the people sitting around the "photographer" didn't feel the same. Those LED screens are bright and rob from the show for everyone around them. I applaud the CM's for taking action.

That could be but I was in the aisle seat so little miss no photos kept running up and down past me as I was trying to watch the show

its two things, it's a safety issue for the cast but also a copywrite infringement for disney thus no filming or photos

I'm sure the prohibition on taking photos has very little to do with whether the photos bother people in the audience. It's copyright protection for disney, and almost certainly part of the performer and designer contracts. Taking photos is basically never allowed in theaters of any kind for this reason. It also happens to be extremely annoying, but that's not what the producers care about!

I once noticed someone tell another person they where saving seats. That person responded with "you cannot save seats" and just sat down with her husband. I was a few rows back and just chuckled.

That well may be, but DCL did used to allow photos (no flash, and no video) during performances. Until the advent of the LED screen on cameras started causing many guest complaints during the shows. Then any photos/videos were completely banned.

I think all of us here understand that. I totally understand it and agree to it. I'm just saying it is ALSO annoying to the audience and basically that is what this thread is about.

Yep. I have (very dark) photos from our first cruise of all the shows. The rule was just no flash photography.

I once inadvertently sat down in the middle of a row of seats that were supposedly being saved for a group that had run to use the facilities. I looked around, and there were no personal items within the 2-3 seats on either side, just a woman sitting in the 4th seat saying they were all saved. I politely responded that if the members of her party arrived within 10 minutes, I would leave. Wouldn't you know, they did not manage to show up until right after the lights were dimmed for announcements. No food, no drinks, so not sure what took them 30 minutes in the bathroom, granted things happen, but really? I guess, if you want to save seats for the family to sit together, do it in the seats that are not front and center. Or, just don't save seats. I do get that people may need to use the facilities, but 6 people out of a 7 person group? Take turns. Go before the group heads in. Of course, I don't really see the shows any longer, my allergies cannot take the vat of perfume/cologne people think makes them smell nice.

Photos used to be allowed as long as there was no backlit LCD. Videotaping was the only thing not permitted from the start.
