Didn't know if I could put this question on the boards or even where but just heard about the movie.

What does everyone think of Tom Hanks playing our beloved Walt?????

I believe Tom Hanks is considered one of the greatest actors of our time. I think it was a good choice.

Ben Affleck would have been a better choice, though.

I think he'll make a great Walt, he's such a good actor. Also, having voiced Woody for so long he'll hopefully have an attachment to Walt too.

Tom Hanks is a great actor. Hopefully he does it well. I just can't picture him looking like Walt especially cause Tom Hanks is bigger. And I don't means he's fat he's just built bigger than Walt or that's what I think.

It's not as bad as Angelina Jolie playing Maleficent though. That IMO is an awful choice.

I'll take the contrary position. His portrayal didn't come off as all that believable to me, particularly the accent.

I just watched the trailer and I agree. He doesn't seem at all like Walt to me but it still looks like a good movie :)

He didn't look much like Jim Lovell, either, but he put in a great performance that was true to Jim. ;)

From the trailer it seems like he is playing Walt Disney a little too goofy/silly/gotcha-ey. Do I detect a little bit of a southern accent too? But, still looks entertaining as hell.

I think he would do just as much...if not more than any actor to do the best portrayal possible. he's a professional...that's what you want.

The guy who voiced Jar Jar Binks wasn't available...by the way...so they had no choice.

But to be honest...after reading most every account and bio of walt disney i've been able to get my hands on...my problem is the "our beloved walt"

no doubt beloved...but even though authors are diplomatic...it is plainly evident that walt disney was not necessarily a nice man. Nobody's perfect top to bottom and he certainly was a rightfully respected figure in history...but he also had an edge - particularly in working his people and in regard to money and his relationship with the disney brand late in life (that was also personnel because he was at odds with his brother)

I'm not sure Russell Crowe's personality wouldn't be closer to the spot

I just the trailer and I think it looks wonderful.

Tom Hanks appears to be a great Walt. I'm looking forward to the movie!

He doesn't pull off a perfect imitation, but he's an excellent actor, and I think they would have a hard time finding someone better.

I don't know. He was no plaster saint, but not necessarily "not a nice man." He was a product of the time, a lot like many of our fathers and grandfathers. He was a businessman, and liked to make money. Many said they owed everything to Walt, while others hated him, though they came back to him time and again. He was just a man. I would say very few of us would remember Walt Disney, he having died in 1966 when I was still several years away from kindergarten. I do remember shorts of him talking about his vision of Walt Disney World on the Sunday night Wonderful World of Disney and his deep voice. I've watched a few trailers of Saving Mr. Banks and think it looks like a nice effort. I don't think Hanks makes Disney look "goofy," just a bit more "bubbly" than I remember, but he is trying to smooze a business deal, after all.
