I switched our car insurance and umbrella policy to Allstate and saved a fortune! I was so surprised. And it was better coverage to boot! My soon to be ex agent said to me that I was lucky my car rates only went up 30.00 or so. I was confused as to why an 11 year old car with low milage that is barely driven and has basic coverage (the minimum) was over 700 for the year.

Allstate I am paying 760 for 6 months! And they saved me 500 a year on our umbrella!

I am now having the new agent look at our home owners!! This may cost me more since I am thinking of moving back to a better company. We left about 2/3 years ago and saved alot, but I was told we had comparable coverage. Turns out we didn't. Where the old company would have covered all our losses from Irene last summer, the new policy covered 1/3. That is not comparable in my opinion.

Claims....is definitely something you have to consider and the service that you will receive from Allstate. Plus if you look at the financial backing that the companies have Allstate is one of the lowest. I believe it is somewhere around $0.50 on the dollar that they have insured. They're not as financially stable as some of the other companies. Yes they will give you low rates, but will they truly be there when something happens as you have seen with Irene

Can I ask who your company was before? I have State Farm and it seems like I tried lowering our rate and couldn't.

Well Allstate doesn't have my homeowners, just my car, and I am not worried about them covering me for that. My current homeowners dropped the ball with us on Irene..so I have no issues changing companies there either.

If someone hits my car with Allstate, I am sure I will be covered..we have clean records so I am really not concerned about that. My DS and DDIL have allstate and have no issues.

My previous policy was with Plymouth Rock, who bought out the company I had before that etc...etc..etc...

My mother in law has Allstate for homeowners and auto. She asked us recently about switching to our company (she is not eligible) because Allstate, whom she has had for about 30 years, just tripled her bill. She is now paying over $2000 for both policies with a 1970s house with no claims and a 2000 car with super low miles. No riders, no extras. We pay about $800 for our 2 cars (2011 and 2001) and larger, newer house with extra riders for our electronics and jewelry. She is looking to get away from them!
