Saturday I will find out if my mom's house is sold....

Long story short - we found out my mom had some pretty outstanding debts that is now left to my brother and myself to take care of. One of those being the house that we thought was paid off. Today when I went down to finish some paper signing at the lawyer's office, I stopped by my moms house to get her car to drive for a while to make sure it's in good working condition to sell and to just check on the house. Well a long time old family friend stopped by to offer his condolonces. Mind you I hadn't seen this man for almost 13 years so it was nice to see him. His daughter and I were in the same religion class from Kindergarten through Senior Year. So after chatting a bit he asked what we are doing with the house. My grandfather was a plumber and electrician so he knows anything that was done on the house was done with good quality, which it was.

So anyway, he said that his daughter just moved back from another state and they are looking for a house and wondered when I was going to be back in town. I told him I would be there almost all weekend as we have to get stuff ready for a garage sale. He asked if I minded if they came over and took a look and I of course said no I didn't mind. I told him I was going to call the realtor this weekend and see if he'd have time to come over and look the house over and tell me what he thought and he said not to do that until they come over and look at it. That way if they want it we don't have to mess with realtor fees!!!!!

This would be an absolute load off my mind. They wouldn't need to be in the house immediately so if we needed 6-8 weeks to get things finished we would be able to have it and yet we'd have the house sold and not have to worry about doing that during the fall/winter months. I can't believe that this could really possibly be happening already.

Please cross your fingers for me on Saturday that this pans out the way I'd love it to. It's an excellent location - just a few blocks away from the school, church and her folks. And she would have the most awesome neighbors anyone can find!!!! I know cause I've grown up with them and they were awesome to my mom!

Chris, this sounds fantastic. Something similar happened 3 doors down from me so, know that it CAN happen!!

Do you know how much the house might be worth? Maybe getting one of those free market analysis' wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yes we do know how much the house is worth. One of the sad things that we found was that my mom was in alot of debt and that she had taken a mortgage out on the house a little over a year and a half ago. She had to have an appraisal done and I was able to find the papers for all of that. So we have an idea, it may have gone up a bit, but it will at least be a great start and maybe they will offer us a bit more (I'm hoping) but I'd be happy with the amount of the appraisal.
