50 mile a hour winds are pretty rough:hug: Would you like those ruby red slippers just in case.:flower3:

Tornado warnings all around us. The wind sounds so bad and scary but it's just when the gusts come through. Thankfully it's not all the time. I think you should send those ruby slippers to Heather this time.

The local new here wants to hear from people in the path of Ike. I texted Heather to see if she would want to be on our local news. I hope I hear from her either here or a text.

Tricia, you stay safe too.

Becca, is this the start of your video business? Has she answered yet?

All circuits are busy.

I got a text from her a few minutes ago, she said she was going to try to get online soon. She is worried about flooding. I'm not sure how far she is from the Gulf. Does anyone know? I hope Tricia is safe too with the tornado warnings and wind.

Becca, she's at an elevation of 23 ft.. about 20 miles se of Houston, if that helps you.

23 feet doesn't seem very high. I wonder how high I am? Where do I find out such information?

I believe Tricia is also at a 23 feet.

Becca you're at aprx. 800 feet.

hi ya'll....just checking in

so far the weather is not bad in my area but things are darkening up.

Judi~~ I am so impressed. You're right...we are at about 23 feet.

They keep showing Galveston Bay and the rising water. it is freaking me out a little. The winds at my house haven;t been bad yet. I think the heaviest gust was about 28-30 mph.

Phone service is sporatic. I will try to keep in touch by texting Becca when I can. I am not sure how long cells will still work. The really bad winds will be tonight so I am sure I will be without power tomorrow.

Heather go to you city's website, it will give you all the emergency info you need.

You're going to be fine. Tricia wanted you to know to turn your air to cold, if you lose power, your house will stay cooler longer!

lol...I saw that. My husband is already walking around wrapped in a blanket:goodvibes We will be fine it is still a scary situation.....and until it is over I am going to question whether I did the right thing to stay.

No right or wrong answer Heather. Are you west of I-45?

We are east of 45....but we are close to it. If I didn;t think we would be ok I wouldn't have stayed.......but it is hard to remember that when youa re watching the news. I believe we are far enough from the Bay to be safe but I haven't ever tested that theory.:confused3

They have not ordered us to go so I am trying to keep that in mind too.....It isn;t like I am ignoring the officials. And traffic out of town is really crazy. at this point I feel liek we are stuck even if we wanted to leave. I remember Hurricane Rita and the evacuation then was miserable.:sad2:

May your Texas ground need a big drink of water now. :flower3:

I read that, unlike the news media is reporting, no exit has been ordered.

How many of these have you been in?

Several....I am not sure the exact count. We even weathered 2 in a mobile home.......not recommended!! It was very very scary and dangerous....but that was before we had kids and were young and stupid.;)

I have evacuated for several also and stayed in a shelter before...none of which are very nice things.

Each storm is different....for some you fear the rain , some the wind, for Ike it is the darn storm surge. When I hear the word 'surge' I think about rapidly rising water...like flash flooding, but that reallyisn;t the case....at least so far. The water is just steadily rising. They keep showing areas that have water bubbling up from the manhole covers and we haven;t even had any rain to speak of.

Heather~I would take it as a good sign that the authorities haven't put your area under a voluntary evacuation. I'm sure after Katrina they aren't taking any chances and if you were in an area that needed to evacuate they wouldn't hesitate to tell you to go. Wow-that's a really long sentence! :teeth: Take care! How are the kids handling this? Maybe you could just turn it into a big family campout in the living room.

Becca~that's funny that you said 800 feet above sea level is high-we used to live at about 9000 feet in Colorado!! Lots of flatlanders coming up to ski would get altitude sickness. I think here in Phoenix we're only a couple hundred feet above sea level.

Tricia~any update on the tornado warnings? How long are they expecting it to take for the storm to move past you?

We had a huge dust storm blow through last night. The news was reporting it was 60 miles wide at one point! But we survived unscathed-just got a really dirty pool out of the deal. Glad I wasn't out driving in it!

I'm about to blow this popsicle stand so I'll check in later! Hasta la vista!

 Hello my dear Haggies....Heather I have been saying a prayer for you hoping you and your family will keep safe.

Judi thanks for the flowers and bubbly, they were mighty good. Oh and I love Hunk Day keep the pics coming.:cool1:

Hope that everyone had a nice day. Shirley
