Here's something for you to think about. I called DVC to get their view on the 2042 assessment fee. They said there would not be a fee for 2042. January 2041 would be the last. Also, you cannot use your points past the January 31, 2042 cutoff. If you have a December use year, you need to borrow the last set of point for use in 2041 or have a reservation in December or January before the cutoff or you lose the points.

Here's something else that was interesting. The new resort, Saratoga Springs, will be sold at a higher per point cost than the other resorts. Why? Because the deeds sold at that resort will not expire in 2042. They will expire in 2054. As of right now (plans may change) SS will be the only DVC resort available from 2042 to 2054. Of course, there's speculation about Disney selling extensions to the current DVC owners or starting over and reselling all of the points but that's just idle gossip right now.

It opens a door for more changes later on.

The DVC deeds all expire on January 31, 2042.
The annual assessment fee is due before January 31st of each year.
Does anyone know if an assessment fee will be due for January 2042 ?

well, I'll be 101 in 2054. I think I'll just keep happy with what we have. If I'm still around then, I'll have my great - great - grandkids wheel me through the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in 2054! please pass the straw........

Not charging an assessment for 2042 is a no brainer. If the current terms all expire January 31, 2042, they certainly aren't going to ding everyone a fee for just 31-days. In reality, the program ends for most of us in 2041. Since it's only 2003 I don't sit around losing sleep over it.

I would love to see the 2054 date. I will be 98 that year, and if I can still fog a mirror with my breath, I am slapping on my Mickey Mouse watch & my finest Mickey shirt and heading out! :p

Actually in some ways it will end more like 2039 to 2040. There will be far less units than points in the 2040 and 2041 use years and no points to borrow from 2042 or even likely many in 2041. There will have to be some sort of rationing the last 2-3 years. It could be a lottery or prorated amount of points. Even if everyone gets the full points in 2040 & 41, there will not be enough units to accomodate very many. Even if there is an extension, the same issue will hold true at some date in the future.
