Sanford to Radisson and back--how many rental cars?

OK guys, help me out here. We have a party of 11--6 adults and 5 kids ranging from 6 to 15. We are flying TMA into Sanford because my dad (sponsor of trip) was completely freaking out today about getting tickets and it saved us $40 or more over the other airlines--each--which is $440!
The thing is, the only flight out leaves at 7:10 PM--if we get off the boat at a leisurely pace, we will still have 8 hours to kill, so we don't want to use a towncar. (or I don't). If we rent a car when we arrive (day before) we also have freedom to tour PC and don't have to depend on the Radisson shuttle.
One option is to rent 3 cars, full size 2 doors (monte carlo or similar). The cost of this, for 3 cars on July 2 (turn in July 3) and 3 more July 10, is roughly $246.20 with avis codes.
Option 2 is to rent 2 minivans. This total cost would be $250.
Either way Dad is impressed that I'm saving him the roughly $500 we would spend on DCL transfers by 50%! He wasn't that keen on driving, but I don't know if 2 minivans would have enough room for all our luggage (11 suitcases, carryons, etc.) We would have to have 5 in one van and 6 in another, not much room for "stuff".
I hope this is clear. We will be renting 7/2 at Sanford and returning 7/3 at PC, then picking up 7/10 at PC and returning cars that evening to Sanford.
Any sage advice from my genius friends here on the cruise boards?

I've rented both "full-size" cars and minivans in the past. The full size cars such as the Mercury Marquis have enormous trunks. I don't recall there being that much luggage space in a minivan. So I'd lean towards 3 full size cars over 2 minivans.

Don't know if you've ever flown in/out of Sanford but I have. The rental car places are a bit off site so make sure to allow enough time to get all luggage, people, rental car turn in, etc. as you will have a little bit of a drive from the rental car place to the Sanford. Our rental car place was literally right across the runway from Sanford but of course you have to go all the way around (couldn't exactly drive across the runway now could we!! :) -- there was also a bit of traffic from the rental car place to Sanford. Also check the times the rental car place is open. Sanford is not a busy airport (mainly charters) and the rental car hours (along with how late taxi's will come out there and that's a whole differrent story!) are very different than at MCO. Now, maybe this has changed but just double check everything with Sanford. Have a great vacationi!

Thanks for the tip. I have even better rates I found from Budget as well. We may even go with a huge 12 passenger van. We'll have plenty of time the day before our cruise, and Budget is closer to port on our embarkation day. On the day we come back we'll still have a good 6 hours at the Space Center before we head to the airport, I think.
TMA is a charter airline, but the rates were the best by a mile.

We once rented a 12 passenger van from a private limo company and they added on a trailer to the back for all the luggage.

Then we rented this van (below) from Budget in Cocoa Beach for the return to MCO after we got off the ship. We were able to check in all of our luggage right at the port terminal....I do not think you would have that option only because you are flying out of Sanford.
