From Sanford International Airport, you can take I-4 or the Central Florida Greeneway (Florida-417 Toll Road), or you can start on 417 and then cut over to I-4 near downtown Orlando. The routes all take around an hour.
I-4 has a lot more traffic. 417 requires $6 in tolls for the whole distance.
At 8:30 p.m. (more like 9:00 p.m. before you have your bags and your rental car), I would take I-4 to save the $6. But that's just me. It really depends on what you prefer.
