After playing around with the small included 16mb card and my S2, I am ready to use the 1g that DH picked up. Just noticed it is not the SanDisk Ultra...just the regular SanDisk SD 1g. Is this card sufficient? Not planning on doing video right now...just photos. Have been reading about memory card error and was concerned. Just want to make sure we have the right card. When I insert it should I format it into the camera? All advice appreciated!

Always best to format in camera, each time you take off photos and reuse. If you are not doing video, should be just fine.

Thanks! I just want to make sure I use the right memory card. I really like this camera and would hate for something to happen.

what card would you need for video?

Hi,

I have the S2 with the SanDisk Ultra II 1Gb SD card, and it's awesome! Very fast for taking photos and downloading to the computer. They are coming out with 2Gb cards and a new Ultra III blazing fast card, but I do not know if they work on the S2.

If you fill up a regular speed 1Gb card, it might take a while to download to the computer. And if you want to take two photos in quick succession (eg: parade is going by), you'll wish you had the faster card.

You can buy the SanDisk Ultra II 1Gb for under $100 at local electronics stores, and even cheaper yet on websites like DigitalMegastore.com.

Good luck!

Not sure if the regular speed card works for High Quality (30fps) with High Quality sound. But with the Ultra II and High Quality settings on the S2, my video is every bit as good as my digital camcorder!!!

sorry, not trying to highjack but hope op wants to know also :)

how long a video can you take with the 1g ultra card at high quality? and techincallly, you'd probably need 1 for video 1 for photos since you'd use up a lot with the video( for a day in the park i mean, till you could down load) just not sure how big a card i need

Thanks! I'll probably get an extra card just for any video I might do in the parks. Haven't tried the video yet. Still playing with the camera. It definitely takes wonderful pictures.

Well, at the highest quality, it's about 2Mb/sec. You can use up the whole 1Gb card for video, which would last ~500 seconds = 8 minutes, 20 seconds.
Not a lot at highest quality. But if you are like me and only shoot about 2 minutes or less total, there's plenty of space on a 1Gb card for both video and photos.

Just remember to do a LOW level format before using a card for video!

remember, at the highest quality, 4.7 Gb DVD (full sized DVD, single layer) can only fit 60 minutes of video and sound.
