We are tying Sanaa on our Dec trip. Looked at the menu many of times, for all you that have eaten there, can you tell me what you ate & how it was. I like to try different foods, but I don't really know what anything is on the menu? TIA

Karen

I had the chicken in red curry and shrimp in green curry and I thought both were really good. DH had the tandoori lamb and really enjoyed his as well. For dessert we had the chai cream and mango passion fruit tapioca pudding, and agreed that the tapioca pudding was the best of the two. Lightly sweetened and a very light end to the meal (the chai cream was too rich and heavy IMHO).

Sanaa is a great choice, and I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you try!

I've only been for dinner once, and had the tandoori lamb. I get lamb every chance I get, and this was the second-best, and easily the most tender, I've ever had.

Every other time I've gotten the slow-cooked short ribs, which are the best of the many different ways and places I've had them.

For dessert, the kitchen could wheel me out a 55-gallon-drum of the chai cream and I'd probably still polish it off.

Ask for Giovanni or Randall for your server; both are outstanding.

(Best lamb I ever had, by the way, is at a small place in Winter Garden called "Chef's Table at the Edgewater." It's run by a former sous chef from Victoria and Albert's, and is staggeringly good.)

We were there in June and we had the following

Myself - Shrimp in green curry, slow cooked short ribs with basmati rice. I really liked the shrimp and the short ribs but I wasn't crazy about the rice, it was good but just rice.
The shrimp and short ribs were the stars, very good.

DH - curry lamb and curry chicken with the 5 grain pilaf. he loved his dishes and I tried his pilaf and really wished I would have gotten that. The pilaf was awesome.

DD - Our 12 yr old is an adventurous eater and decided to get the Tandoori Lamb. Easliy the best dish on the table! I actually begged her to switch with me, as much as I loved my dish hers was 10 million times better. Amazing is the better word. She literally had to fight myself and my DH off her plate to keep from eating it all. I cannot wait to go back to Sanaa so that all of us can get the lamb this time!

For dessert we shared the dessert platter and loved all of the offerings but the Chai creme turned out to be our favorite, it was very light and refreshing.

My dh and I both had the New York strip and thought it was delicious!

My mom ordered the Tandoori shrimp which she thought was okay. It was not her favorite meal during our trip.

My sister had the Tandoori chicken and enjoyed it!

My bil ordered the lamb. He thought it was very good.

I do not remember everyone's dessert choices. I got the chocolate cake and thought it was tasty!

I have had most of the non-seafood dishes here and loved nearly all of them. Not a huge fan of paneer cheeses, though.

Also, the garlic dip for the breads is out-of-this-world. It's incredible... whole cloves of garlic in some kind of vaguely Mediterranean oil/sauce/spice blend.

I looked up Tandoori and see that the rub has a fair amount of cumin, red pepper so I gather that it's spicy?

The tandoori at Sanaa was not spicy at all...it was very tasty!

We ate at Sanaa (dinner) last July and we loved it. We had the breads with dips as an app (red pepper hummus, cucumber raita and some sort of chutney...mango I think...all delicious!). I had tandoori chicken and it was delicious...I had the 5-grain pilaf with it which was also very good. DH had the beef short ribs and shrimp in curry sauce and he loved it. He had the basmati rice with it and he liked that too. We didn't eat dessert...too stuffed from everything! Excellent service too, the place is beautiful, and we had a table by the window so we got to watch the animal roaming around. Our boys loved it there too (they were 3 and 5 at the time)...they had typical children's menu items for dinner. Highly recommended!!! :thumbsup2

I have been to Sanaa twice, and it is my favorite 1TS restaurant on WDW property. The first time, I had the sustainable fish of the day, and the second time I had the pick-two-things, slow-cooked dinner with the lamb curry and the durban chicken. I liked the chicken better, but both were good. The chicken was a spicier item that they added to the menu fairly recently, as I understand it.

A note on the kids' items. They may look the same on the menu, but the pizza is unlike any other kids' pizza on property. They use the naan bread dough for the pizza and fresh ingredients, as opposed to other places that just stick the pizza in the microwave after pulling it out of the freezer. I actually talked to the chef about this after my younger (picky eater) daughter actually wolfed down her pizza.

In any event, they put out a lot of good food at Sanaa. Next time, I am going for a Tandoori dish.

Both times we've dined there we have ordered two or three orders of the "Bread Service" but with Naan bread only. We have been given between 6-9 of the different spreads/chutney/relishes. We love the garlic-pickle!!!! Honestly, I could make a meal out of that and maybe the tomato Soup - with paneer cheese. I also love the dessert sampler. I love, love, love, love the loose leaf teas that come in the bumble bee pot. After using the pots at Jiko and Sanaa this past trip (the trip before they were both using the glass French presses) I bought myself one for home use (and some Eros tea to go with it).

I was not a fan of the steak or the curry sampler. I think the fish was well liked at our table, though...

I had forgotten about this. I had some of my daughter's -- it's the rare good pizza on Disney property.

Sanaa is probably my favorite WDW place to eat. It has a lot to do with the ambiance as well.

We always get the Indian Style Bread service to start. We get Naan, Paratha and Paneer Paratha with raita, mango chutney and garlic-ginger pickle.

We have also gotten the salad sampler. The carrot, orange and mint is delicious.

For main courses, we have had:

Beef Short Ribs - Very eh. The meat didn't taste particularly like anything.

Chicken with Red Curry Sauce - Spicy and tasty.

Shrimp with Green Curry Sauce - Good, but the curry was a bit too sour for my taste.

Today's Sustainable Fish - Both times I've had it was the artic char, which is like salmon. Totally delicious.

I've also had the dish of chicken and cherries. Yummy!

On our recent stay at Kidani, I was somewhat "housebound" and really tried to limit walking. So we ate at Sanaa 3 times.

First time was for lunch - I was really afraid of ordering something too exotic. Our server was Christopher and he took his time explaining everything but I was still wary. So I tried the Angus burger on naan with cucumber raita. It ended up reminding me of a gyro except the meat was not spiced and it was more open faced. But I really enjoyed the sandwich - cucumber raita is a lot like tzatziki sauce. Kids & I shared the naan with just red pepper hummus - none of the other sauces/dips appealed to me. Kids both had the kids burgers with roasted potatoes and liked them. DD then disappeared to the community hall but DS and I stuck around for tapioca pudding (which DD hates anyway - lol.) There was some sort of fruit puree around it - maybe mango? Dressed it up a little - I liked it. DS would have rather had it plain.

We went back for dinner that night and Abby was our server. Christopher saw us and asked if we were now regulars. I decided to be a little more adventurous, as did the kids. But of course, we started with naan again. I got the slow roasted combo and opted for short ribs and green curry shrimp with basmati rice; kids both got the chicken & basmati rice. Abby suggested the tamarind chutney in lieu of BBQ sauce - kids liked it (tastes somewhere between A-1 Sauce and BBQ.) We all thoroughly enjoyed our food - nothing was overly spicy. I would call it comfort food with an Indian flair. DS had tapioca again for dessert, this time plain. DD had the frozen dessert sampler & I had the dessert trio - both were yummy. I loved the chai cream, but I have an iron stomach for sweet desserts. I think most people would find it too rich.

Next night we returned and asked to sit in Abby's station again. My son is mildly autistic and she was really patient and kind to him - well she was kind to all of us, but she was just so good dealing with him. Unfortunately, her station was full. We sat with Brenda instead. She was good too - honestly ALL our servers here were great. Probably the best wait staff overall in all of WDW. Of course we had naan (we LOVED this bread - it's warm, soft in some spots, crispy in others and drizzled with clarified butter. Just so simple and delicious.) DS got the chicken again; DD got really adventurous and ordered green curry shrimp (Abby had told us the night before that they will make a kids portion of almost any adult entree.) I was not super hungry and got the mustard crusted scallops with coconut cream sauce (an appetizer) and a side of the 5 grain pilaf. This was SO delicious. Loved the pilaf - had a really nice nutty flavor. I much preferred it to the basmati rice. Can't remember what the kids had for dessert, but I tried the orange-sesame cake at both Abby & Brenda's suggestion. It was very good but just not decadent enough for me. I should have ordered the full size chai-cream!

We enjoyed all our meals at Sanaa, and I will definitely order the tandoori chicken next time we visit (in September - just a few more weeks - YAY!!) Don't be intimidated if you have never had Indian food - it was warm and hearty and comforting - and if you wanted it spicier, I know they would oblige. But you might be disappointed if you eat Indian food more frequently.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm sure my family will enjoy dinner at Sanaa. Now you all have me hungry....:)

Great thread...I think my DH will love the short ribs, hope they dont have a menu change until after Oct lol

Dh and I were hoping to try Sanaa this trip. Our first day we have decided to just be a lazy day and wake up ready to explore.

Thanks for all the reviews!

Kelly

We tried Saana on our last trip. I have a review of it and pictures in my trip report in my signature. I like a little spice so I was fine with it. I had the shortribs and shrimp. I would go there again but we like to try somewhere new everytime we go. It's high on my list as is Jiko. We also had a savanah view from our table which is awesome!
