Hi everyone. I am doing a review of the new restaraunt Sanaa (prounced Sanai as I was corrected by a greeter lol). Anyway we ate there for lunch on Sat 6/20 and we liked it somuch we decided to eat there again (for research sake of course;)...I would do anything for my fellow disboarders:rotfl:).

Anyway I should mention this...yes it is heavy on the Indian accent but in no way your typical Indian. We are from NY and have soooo much Indian here in NYC which we eat often. I was not expecting this and neither should you.

That being said I say Bravo to Disney for trying something out of their comfort zone. Yes Jiko is African but not over the top adventurous. The design is so beautiful (I am a restaurant designer here in NY so I am critical and this could make or brake a place for me). The service was great- knowledgble and friendly. Food was Aplis on the first vist and A on the second (mostly because we ordered some dips we weren't sure we would like in the first place...and they were prepared well just not to our taste).

Decor- A+

This is the only restaurant so far to date that was not a siggie that has gotten A's in all categories from me!

Ok, OK on to the food!!!!

Breads: Naan, Roti, Paneer Paratha
Accompaniments: Mint and Onion Raita, Mango Chutney, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus,

My fav was the mango chutney, Dh liked the mint raita. The hummus was great but similiar to Boma...though a touch spicier I think. the naan was amazing- so fresh! I tried Paneer Paratha for the first time and liked it. Roti is kind of bland but always is tio me anywhere I go. Needs the dips.

Tandoori Chicken - wrapped in Naan bread with minted greens, tomato, and cucumber yogurt raita...yum It was the flavors of tandoori but served in a much more subdued mediterranean way.

Slow Cooked in Gravy, Simple and Well Seasoned...
Chicken with Red Curry Sauce, Shrimp with Green Curry Sauce, Beef Short Ribs

Dessert...I loved the mango pudding!

and we did it again.

Potato samosas...flaky, tasty
summer09328.jpg

Mango lassi smoothie- an americanized verion of the lassie but still tasty
summer09329.jpg

Breads: same as before

Accompaniments: Cucumber Raita, some sort of mango Pickle...yuck, yuck hated this, Tamarind Chutney

summer09330.jpg

Salad Sampler
Chickpeas with cucumber and tomato
Carrot, orange, and mint
Roasted potato, corn and spinach

I loved the potato, the carrot was good..could have lived without chickpea

Slow Cooked in Gravy, Simple and Well Seasoned
Chicken with Red Curry Sauc- very good and quite mild
Shrimp with Green Curry Sauce- loved this sooo much first time had to have it again as Dh kept devouring it!

Great reviews - is that how the tandoori chicken came, served on the bread with all the stuff already on it? Was it lunch you had or dinner? The restaurant looks pretty busy, could you tell me when that picture was taken? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to figure out the best time for our ADR in October :flower3:

Thank you for the review. We are eating dinner there one night in Sept.:goodvibes

Glad you liked it! :) We will be at Kidani 2 nights in September and I tried to get in there one of the nights but couldn't - the other night is one of our favorites, Jiko. Maybe next time...

i need to correct my thinking now, apparently ive been mis-pronoucing it for ages :rotfl2:

The review and pics are great. The restaurant looks really beautiful. I'm eating here in August and I can hardly wait!
Thank you for bringing it to life for us.

It was lunch both times...first time around noon second time around 2pm. Both times it was fairly busy. If you can I would say make an ADR.

Oh yes for thunch the Tandoori chick was served like that...almost like a souvlaki sandwich.

...wow, everythng looks so good, but THIS [ I don't know why :confused3 ] looks ESPECIALLY good:

It's a somosa. It is like a pastry that is filled with potsto (spiced potatos anyway) served with mango chutney..soooooo good!

i so want to try this but i think i want to mainly for the location and view and not the food. :(

We are sticking to Boma this trip....maybe next time :)

Thanks for the review and pictures - so glad you enjoyed it :)

Well you can not go wrong with Boma! Have a great time!

We are coming to AKL to eat in November. I was thinking Boma... with Sanaa being the backup plan... with your review I am wondering if we should reverse that.

We're trying this place next month...I have a late afternoon lunch reservation before MNSSHP. I can't wait! I'm gonna get that yummy looking chicken sandwich for sure! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the review!

We loved Sanaa in May and are going back in September - I agree the lime pickle (I think that's what you said - that's what it looked like!) is a very aquired taste :scared:

I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope they keep the menu similar. Did you get a 'Savanna view' table? I was thinking of asking for this but wouldn't want a long wait.
