San Juan- car or taxi?

We are staying 2 nights in Isla Verde after our cruise in January. I originally was thinking we would just use a taxi for transportation, but now I'm looking into renting a car. If you've been there before, is the driving as bad as they say? And are taxis expensive? We can get a car for $96.

I have a friend from PR and he refuses to drive while there.

Unless we go out to the Arecibo Observatory we're just going with cabs. They seem to be set up in a combo of zone system and meter system depending on where you're going.

I would recommend a taxi 100 percent. Their taxi system was really impressive. They have good size cars so we did a group of four adults with all our luggage and i think it was only 20 fare to our hotel from airport and about the same to port. Just very very efficient in how they do the system. They will tell you Cost before you get in car,

San Juan was our first use of Uber and our experience was great. It was great getting wherever you wanted from wherever you were standing without having to put your hand in your wallet. The app displays the license plate and a picture of the driver picking you up.
