San Angel review

We have eaten at San Angel on three previous trips and have found it is getting worse each trip! We travel to Mexico and love all types of Mexican food except Tex Mex. After our visit last week we are done with San Angel. The bill was $145 for me, my DH and two kids. The kids didn't eat their food at all. I was very disappointed to get frozen vegetables as a side dish for this price. They no longer serve the Queso Fundido we loved either. We actually enjoyed the food at the Cantina outside on our 2nd of Epcot. We ate at MamaMelrose's in DHS and thought the food was better there for 1/2 the price!

Just another thing to ponder, San Angel is NOT operated by Disney. The food service there, and at the Pepper Market and Rixs Lounge at CS are run by a outside food service company.

With that being said. I ate at San Angel last week. IMHO, not worth the price if I had paid cash (we were on DDP). The service was horrendous. I had the Mahi Mahi as my entree and that was quite nice, that's about the extent of positives I can say. I had the salad as an app, and the flan as dessert. They salad was OK, and the flan industrial.

We were in and out within 45 minutes. Our entrees where brought to the table before we were done with our apps. Our server wasn't seen from the time we ordered, until time to order dessert. Never came by to check on us. Forget about water refills.

This was the second worst meal on the trip....#1 goes to Yak & Yeti. I will be writting a full report with photos on San Angel along with many other dinners in the coming days.

We (myself, DW, DS, DD) ate at SAI for the first time in Aug, and it also will be our last time there. Loud, dark, poor service, very close quarters, and the food is JUST NOT WORTH IT ! On the other hand, we love the cantina across the way, especially the churros !!

Sorry you had a bad experience - San Angel has not gotten repeat status for our trips either.

The best thing about San Angel is the atmosphere. The food was fine, but forgettable and the service was so so. I just love the cool, placid feeling inside. When we go there now, we get margaritas outside at the kiosk and sit inside near the market area. For us, this has the same effect as the restaurant.

Wish they would do something memorable with the space. From my travels, Mexican restaurants are found in almost every community. One would think that the owners/managers of San Angel would be aware of this and do something to "plus" the guest experience at San Angel.

Well, we can always hope....

Are you sure about this? I know the Maya Grill, Pepper Market and Rix Lounge are not operated by Disney, but I was pretty sure that San Angel Inn was operated by Disney given that its inside Epcot.

I'm fairly certain that several of the WS restaurants are not owned/operated by Disney such as Italy, and possibly Morocco in addition to Mexico

I have DDP ressies for this place and all of you got me thinking twice about keeping them. Does anyone have a better suggestion for dinner in Epcot?

We ate there in April during the evening extra magic hours and had a great experience. It was prior to closing and the food and service were great. Love the atmosphere!

My sister ate there on the 8th of June and really enjoyed her meal...she ate there with her two kids, had no ADR, loved what they ordered and even were allowed to have Chirros instead for dessert which are not on the menu. Great server and experience, one of their fav. meals of the trip.

Many restaurants through out disney property are not owned by Disney....they started outsourcing restaurants in the 1990s to save on money. One of the first to go was the boat restaurant in DTD which is now Fultons and has not been Disney owned since it was Empress Lily. Fulton's company also owns WGP cafe.

Yep, I am sure. More then one EPCOT sit down are run by outside participating partners including Mexico, Morocco, Italy.

Chefs and Marrakesh are great. We're eating at Chefs this trip and also trying Le Cellier and Rose and Crown for TS as well as Tangerine CS.

In the past, we really looked forward to San Angel. That is not the case any longer. The food has been terrible especially for the price.

Yeah Go to SAN ANGEL INN. Some people might not like it, but I thought it was great. Food may no be exactly authentic but it was prepared just the way I requested and tasted great. The Drinks are some of the best to be had in DisneyWorld, try the Ultimate Margarita. Also the atmosphere is awesome. Sunset over looking a river & Valley in Mexico. We had our 10th Anniversary dinner there in May and I say you'd be hard pressed to find a spot with a more intimate feel. Pay no attention to the nay sayers, go with San Angel

Since we have dined here but I remember we enjoyed the food and service was great.It was at least 6 years ago and I was thinking of trying again.With the mixed reveiws may just have to try and form our own opinion,if it is good that will be fine if it is bad,well one bad dinner will not ruin our WDW experience. I say keep your reservation. You obviously chose San Angel in the first place because that kind of food/atmosphere appealed to you. What's the worst that can happen? Sure, you may end up not liking it, and you can at least cross it off your list as having tried it. It's not the end of the world if that does happen. It's just one meal. Or you may end up loving it! Everyone has different taste, and you may find your new favorite restaurant in San Angel Inn, or at least a great experience with your family. Trust your instincts!

San Angel used to be one of my family's favorites, too. (I'm an Orlando native, and we used to go all the time.) We went back there on New Year's Eve for the first time in seven or eight years and I was so disappointed at how the menu had been gutted. (We miss the queso fundido, too!) Thanks for the tip about the Cantina; we'll have to try that next time.
