San Angel Inn - Birthday Lunch Question

One of our stops on our upcoming Disney trip in March is to have lunch at the San Angel Inn in the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT. I know that this restaurant gets mixed reviews, but my question is not whether we should or should not eat here. My DD will be turning 15 and she has always wanted to eat here so we are doing lunch on Saturday

My question is - will they doanything extra for her because it's her birthday? Special desert?? If so, do I ask the hostess or server or set something up before we go down? I'd like it to be a surprise but wasn't sure if they did anything special at the pavilion restaurants.

Any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated.

We ate lunch here last month and the food was only so-so, but the atmosphere was fantastic! After our meal, we agreed that we would probably eat there again for lunch, but we wouldn't pay dinner prices for that kind of food. Neither one of us was celebrating anything, but some of the servers gathered to sing Happy Birthday to people at least three times during the hour or so we were there. I don't know if there are special desserts or how to set something up, though, sorry.

As with any restaurant at Disney... sometimes they will sing and bring a cup cake, sometimes just bring a cup cake, sometimes a signed card etc etc and sometimes nothing.... you can not depend on something for free if you are expecting them do something.. I would call a few days or even weeks before to see if you can purchase a cake again that is if you are expecting them to do something... My experiences have varied a lot with a child WEARING a birthday pin.. from some places bringing out a cup cake a few as in very few sang made any kind of deal other than here is a cupcake and some nothing at all.. to Pecos bills yes Pecos bills having a CM talk to my son.. asking if we are ok with them doing something and then doing something big including a cupcake, straw, card, picture and a huge announcement... we go often around my sons birthday as it is in July... so it is when we normally go... but in the end we expect nothing and if we want something we pay... order one of the larger desserts at Trex or Rainforest.. they will make it special...

Agree with all this.

Fact is, a large percentage of people at Disney are celebrating SOMETHING. It's truly hit or miss if the cast members will do something or not. Everything at Disney is just so busy now, and I wouldn't depend on anything special being done that I didn't control myself...in other words, if you want something special done, plan on doing it yourself.

I too often go around our sons birthday. Most often nothing was done.
I believe you can request a small, generic cake at the podium when you check in for a fee. Or you can check out the Cake Thread for info on how to order a more elaborate cake to be delivered to your table.
Good Luck.

We were there on 2-7-17. My wife was wearing her "It's my birthday" button, and we had 5 waiters/waitresses arrive with a bowl of ice cream and a song in Spanish. No charge. My wife got a big kick out of it.

It happens. It just can't be counted on to happen, unless you 100% take matter into your own hands.
