So , the SAMSUNG tv Tries to turn on and then just turns off ..Clicks on and then....OFF...on and off..UGH!!..googled and found that Samsung realizes there was this particular issue and will repair it FREE of charge...IF it fits in their covered models and year....
so called them direct. Was told (using the model and serial number) that the warranty was no longer valid and that it could not be repaired FREE of charge.:headache: I VERY calmly told them that I was very DIS -satisfied and was placed thru to another department...re-explained the situation briefly, was told it did indeed sound exactly like the capacitor issue (bad capacitors on the power supply, some bulge or swell) and that they WILL come out and Repair it for FREE as a 1 time situation. Coming this week, they set you up with a local company for repairs.
So, if you have a SAMSUNG tv that is "trying" to turn on but for some reason turns OFF, Clicking On and then off ...Call them......I found the number online!

I did not know how to update my thread title, sorry
Just wanted to provide an update.

Samsung came. Got a call they would arrive within a three hour period. About 30 minutes before, got a call that he would be there. Arrived On Time!!

Very nice, quite well dressed gentleman came (I am talkigng dress shoes, slacks, short sleeve dress shirt with Samsung logo stitched on it) and carrying a professional looking Goodie bag, :rotfl:

He came in, took the tv apart, changed out the entire "board" in the back, put it back together, and in 20 minutes he was out the door with my SAMSUNG tv working again!
Paid by SAMSUNG (they got me this local tv service company that clearly does samsung work, perhaps only samsung :confused3, as he drove a samsung LOGO vehicle as well!
(FYI: despite tv being out of warranty!)

WOoHOo Thrilled with the service! THANKS samsung!!!:dance3:

Just curious, is it a Samsung LCD?
We had that problem about six months ago, would turn it on and it would try to turn on then turn off. We had purchased the ext. warranty @ Best Buy, and are actually on our 3rd Samsung now w/ warranty. Just got a new one Sunday, the old one had a black hairline appear about 1/3 the way down and couldn't be fixed. They told us to take it to Best Buy and switch out for equivalent but we paid and upgraded to LED. Sorry, I'm rambling and getting off topic... but I think we did have the problem you mention. Glad Samsung fixed the problem for you.:thumbsup2

I have this problem with my Samsung LCD TV and this is the SECOND time it's happened. I purchased the TV in 2008 (52 inch - paid $1800 for it). I did not purchase the extended warranty. In late 2009, the TV started "clicking" and took a long time to turn on. We took the TV to a local (well regarded) repair shop and I paid $188 to have it fixed. Now, almost two years later, it's happening again!!! Oy!

I am going to call Samsung and explain my situation. Maybe they will do the right thing and fix this TV once and for all!!!

To the OP - I'm glad you got your TV repaired free of charge!

Yes, That's what our's did, I said clicking on /off but couldn't remember exactly. Call them! I hope they will fix it for you.

We had that problem as well with our Samsung TV. Using You-Tube, a couple of Capacitors from Radio Shack, and a soldering tool, my husband was able to fix it himself in about 20 minutes
