Samsung LN52B630 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

or

Panasonic 54 Inch Viera S1 Series 1080p Plasma HDTV

I ordered the Panasonic last night, but I can cancel the order. I saw the Samsung on Amazon today (supposed to come with a free blu-ray player). The net cost (after discounts, etc.) will come out to be about the same.

Anybody want to share any words of wisdom? TIA!

I'm thinking that Panny is the way to go. Bicker?:)

Samsung is one of the best brands. I have three and they are great. I don't consider Panasonic for anything any more. No longer a quality brand.

Ohhhh, you two are not helping! :rotfl:

Okay, one for each of them. I researched the Panasonic pretty well last night (got a good price plus bing.com cashback :thumbsup2), but the Samsung is looking good too. popcorn::

This is a lot of money (well, it is for me anyway). I'd love more input! :goodvibes

Agreed Samsung is a very dependable brand. We have a Samsung fridge and LOVE it!

We have the panasonic and LOVE it. It is heavy though. Don't plan to move it around too often unless you have some good moving strength.

hmm, i dont suggest either TVs.

I suggest considering an LED TV. They are brighter, thinner and just plain better.

As for LCD vs Plasma, go with LCD(if LED is not the choice).
Plasma's only advantage is shades of black...(more but thats the most important) I remember i did my research when buying my TV...

I have an Samsung TV, the only 2 things i dont like about it is non HD channels or anything simply just looks like crap. :\

Panasonic on 720p looks like crap too. but never had them, my roommate does but his 720p looks terrible, but his non hd looks really nice.

If i were in your shoes, the LCD is always better imo. so id go with the Samsung...

I have a 46 in. Samsung and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I also went overboard with research. I ended up purchasing from Amazon and got the White Glove delivery.

Id go with Panasonic. Pansonic makes some the highest quality TVs around. Samsung makes very few but are hugely popular. The samsung also has 120 hz which actually degrades picture quality.

I researched TV's about a year ago and the Panasonic plasmas were the only ones that really compared favorably with the over $4000 sets.

Between these two tv's I'd go with the Panasonic. The only reason to go with the Samsung is if your room is very bright because plasmas can pick up a lot of glare.

I would definitely go with the Samsung. Not only because it is a better brand overall, but also because power consumption for LCD is much better than for plasma.

I have the 52inch Samsung model that yours replaced. I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just ordered the 40 inch equivalent of your 52 for our bedroom. We also have a 32 inch Samsung in the excersise area.

HAHAHAHHA, i think were gonna give the OT a big headache...

Yeah. This is NOT the place to do research! Gather some opinions maybe but one has to get out there and do some homework.

OP; Crutchfield has lots of good information in laymans terms that can help decide what is right for your individual situation.

We have the samsung B640 40" and love it. I too did a lot of research and this one won out. Plus the picture is fantastic. It has soemthing called ultra brite which makes the blacks blacker. Just love it.

honestly, just go stand in front of the TV and just stare...

Actually, i saw my TV at a store while looking at another TV and i was like wow, im getting that one... and thats how i got my TV cuz i liked it in the store... :)

I actually did that (although it was a 50" Panasonic instead of the 54"). The pictures looked pretty much identical. At the store, I liked the Panasonic, the Samsung, the LG, and the Sanyo (or it might have been the Sharp, not positive on that one). I didn't like the Sony. They all were comparable on specs.

We have a large living room that, while not dark, is not extremely bright either. We are not videophiles, play no games on it, and only watch television with an occasional movie. My husband started out wanting me to find as big a television as possible for under $1000. With the bing.com discount, the 54" Panasonic will be in that range. The 52" Samsung will be a couple of hundred dollars more.

Stores are notorius for having the settings all cranked up to where the picture is not correct. This due to the lighting in retail stores, and that most folks will pick the brightest picture as "best". Brightest does not necessarily equal accurate.

I have an HDTV I'm happy with, but if I were buying a new one today, I'd probably pick plasma.

I have a similar Samsung, except that mine is 240 Hz (but we don't usually have it set at that - it made the movement on some shows/games seem "unnatural" to me, even though I couldn't quite put my finger on the specific reason it looked weird). I spent hours looking at display models and researching to try to choose the best TV for my money and the Samsung was the only one I wanted at the end of all that. I have no complaints at all about my TV and I'm planning to get another one for my computer room as soon as possible. However, I know that some people do prefer the look of plasma so obviously there isn't one "right" choice for everyone.

I do agree with another poster that if money isn't a huge factor the LEDs look amazing. For me, the fairly small differences weren't worth the fairly large price difference at the time I was buying. However, as time goes by I suspect the price will start to drop so I would absolutely consider an LED in the future.
