Sure it does, if one uses the bible as their moral compass and they based their vote on it then it is completely relevent to the discussion.
It does from an individuals perspective but The United States is a Secular Nation and no single Micro-Culture (i.e. Christianity, Buddhism..) is above the overall Culture as defined by The Constitution of The United States. Therefore, sure one can use the Bible as a moral lense but said moral lense should never override The Laws and rights as outlined within The Constitution. To do so would be UnAmerican (yeah that's right I said it) and I'll say it again to deny ALL citizens the opportunity of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (within the laws) would be completely and utterly UnAmerican.
The bottom line to use Herbert Spenser's "Organic Analogy" - If America is an Organism it can live without it's appendages such as Religion, book clubs, girl scouts and any other Micro-Culture but it could not live without the heart and brain The Constitution of The United States of America....
