Sam Phillips passes away, age 80 (you ask, who was Sam?)

Think, Elvis (his first single, among others, 'Thats All Right Mama'), Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Sun Records, the very roots of Rock and Roll, early, mid 50's. Music producer, Sam Phillips, both Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame member, helped 'marry' black blues and white 'hillybilly' into early rockabilly, and from that, Rock and Roll. I remember listening to a little transitor radio, late at night (reception was/is better at night) to those many southern blues stations (maybe why I like the Stones today), and recall when this type of music started to blend in. I did have (wish I still did) many of those early Sun label 45's. Some great music of those days, the origins for sure.

I know who Sam Phillips was, because my DH has an encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll.

Sam Phillips was one of the pioneers of RnR, and somehow, maybe he, Elvis, Roy and Carl are playing some oldies now . . .
