We've booked the Once Upon a Fairytale Germany ABD and are hoping to add a day at the end in Salzburg. It seems like a quick train ride from Munich. I was just wondering if anyone here has done that and has any tips or recommendations for hotels. I know there used to be an Austria ABD trip. Does anyone know what hotels they used in Salzburg?

Thanks!

Laurie

We spent a day in Salzburg last summer, but we didn't stay overnight, so I can't help with hotel suggestions. But we had lunch at the restaurant at the fortress atop Festungsberg Mountain and both my dish and my son's were just fantastic, so I can at least suggest a place for lunch. The view is also amazing.

Thanks Tobi! That hotel looks pretty convenient, and not too pricey (especially given the $1000 ABD post-night cost in Munich!).

Our family lived in Munich for nearly 2 years with my husbands job. We frequently went to Salzburg because it was 1 1/2 hours by car. The train ride should be about the same. We did take my in-laws for a weekend at Christmas and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel, a Marriott property. It was very nice and affordable for an "American" style hotel. We traveled a lot while we were living there and tried to stay with American brands for familiarity and consistency. We had 2 little girls so anything that made travel easier was better.

I loved the Goldener Hirsch and stayed there a couple of times when I lived in Germany. :thumbsup2
