Does anyone have any suggestions of places to go in the Salt Lake City area? We're thinking of going there next summer. How's the weather/humidity in June? We're expecially interested in nature, including possibly a trip to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge

Definitely head south. You are not far from Sundance and it is a BEAUTIFUL drive there. Plus, it is a real "touristy" place....very fun!!

There are some great malls downtown.

If you are in a "learning" mode, check out Temple square. Sometimes the Tabernacle choir sings, and I think you can go in, but you can hear them as you walk around the square. There are also statues that tell the history of the Mormon church...I am not a believer, but it is very interesting.

Also, I think their big summer "thing" if "founder days" (I think that is what it is called), so just be aware if you are going during that time..BIG Mormon party!! My best friend is a Salt Lake native. If you have any specific SLC questions, pm me and I will call her and get her answers!! If I remember correctly, Founder's day is near the end of June.

Weather is great in June....it will be hot during the day (high 80's to low 90's), but cool off into the 60-70's at night. Obviously the earlier part of June is cooler, and those temps are for the city itself. When you get out into the wilderness areas it is much cooler.

Have you ever been there before? Landing in Salt Lake is such a trip....the mountains are RIGHT there!!! ....and, their HUGE!!

I love that city!!!

Actually, our big holiday is July 24, Pioneer Day as we call it. It's quite a celebration with parades, etc.

There are lots of fun things to do in SLC. Like the previous poster suggested, you can do Temple Square, but there are lots of other things as well. There are lots of museums, a planetarium, an aquarium, Hogle Zoo, lots of theater (the Utah Shakespearean Festival is a short 3 hour drive south of SLC in Cedar City). There are national parks all over the state with gorgeous views, hikes, bike trails, horse trails, etc.

PM me if you want to know more!

I forgot you asked about the weather in the summer here. It's usually beautiful here in June. Humidity is extremely low (think non-existant), and it's usually clear and hot. If you come from a place with high humidity, the dryness can take some getting used to, but it's worth it!

Unfortunately, I do live in an area of high humidity (73% today) and hot (85 degrees right now). And I've never flown into Salt Lake City, that sounds like a real interesting airport!

It should be fun for you to experience something new and different. Will you be bringing any young ones? If so, we do have an "amusement park" called Lagoon that has some fun things. It's no Disney, but it's what we got.

SLC is a great place to visit. You can do as suggetsed above and check out some of the Skiing venues (even though there's no snow-mthey're fun to see). Try going to Park City- fun shopping and worth the driv for the beauty of it! Also- if you're not absolutely stuck on staying in SLC, go south to Zion National park and ST. George. These are beautiful areas- and ST. George is only about 2 hours from Vegas. You could aslo rent a house boat and go floating on Lake Powell. This is a vey enjoyable thing to do. However- I would definetly suggest touring Temple Square- there's really no pressure to tour and the people are very friendly and accepting. On Sunday mornings the Tabernacle Choir tape "The Spoken Word". This performance is free and open to the public- you just need to find out what time they perform. Someone at the Temple Square Visitors Center should be able to give you that info. It is really a beautiful thing to see and hear- really a not to be missed thing!

Pick up lunch and drive out to Antelope Island in the Lake. But watch out for the birds!!!
