Salad instead of dessert at Via Napoli?

Has anyone substituted a salad for a dessert on the ddp at Via Napoli since the changes? We are not big on desserts and would rather a salad but not sure if this restaurant does this.

I am interested in this as well. I have read that of all the WDW restaurants, Via Napoli is the strictest in regards to adhering to DDP terms. It is the one we planned to pay OOP because I just do not want to get upset over what is covered, what can be shared, and who can share. LOL!

Just an FYI, we are on the dining plan and still use it at Via Napoli. We are 5 people, we order 2 personal pizzas and a chicken parm dinner and a spaghetti and meatballs and a kids meal for my son and we then share between us. They have never stopped us from sharing, you just can't order large pizzas and use dining credits with the larger pizzas. The desserts are very expensive here, I think close to $10 each, it's crazy.

Good to hear! You know this girl is ordering those marvelous little balls of yumminess! No matter the cost! LOL!

It sounds like you used 5 credits (2 personal pizzas, 1 parm dinner, 1 spaghetti & meatballs and 1 child's meal) so sharing would be okay because that is 1 credit per person. What VN doesn't allow is using just 1 credit to feed 2 or more people.

As far as what can be subbed for the dessert it appears to be at the discretion of the restaurant. One poster said at The Wave they were offered a specific vegetable side dish as an alternative to the dessert so we will have to wait for posters to let us know what (if) they had options at VN.

If you are on DDP you can share amongst your guests - what they don't want you to do is share CREDITS (use one credit to feed multiple people). If you use a credit for everybody you can share whatever you order amongst yourselves, but you couldn't spend 2 credits and use them to feed 5 people.

Hi all, I never post but read the forums a lot. Just wanted to share that my family ate at VN on July 4th. All 12 on the dining plan. I tried to get the salad instead of the dessert and they refused. It was a mess, I even pulled up the site documenting the changes on my phone. They told us that VN was not aware and had not been told about the changes. The manager came over and was so funny/rude. He kept telling me that he would offer me a coffee in the place of the dessert. Oh sure in July in the heat I said " no thanks". All week it was hit and miss regarding the new changes to the dining plan. Many of the cast members were not aware of the changes. We were there for 12 days and are annual visitors. If you have any questions about our experience with the dining plan changes. Feel free to ask.

I would love to know if you asked about substitutions at any QS locations and BOG especially. Lots of people wanting confirmation that you can swap drink or dessert out for soup using a QS credit.

PoohsHunnyBee, I was able to substitute at both Coronado Springs and Wilderness Lodge quick service. I tried at Flame Tree because we wanted the onion rings instead of the dessert and the CM said no. BOG , sorry we did not try here at lunch or dinner, my group loves those cupcakes. We had much better luck at the quick service than at the table service. Good luck. Hope they let you get the soup it is great.

There has been nothing from Disney stating that you can switch dessert for a side at a table service restaurant. All the reports are on unofficial sites such as this one. The only change in writing (in the 2016 brochure) is that at a quick service meal dessert can be swapped for any item marked as a snack credit. So unfortunately the reason the manager couldn't offer a swap is it may not actually be part of the dining plan at present.

Many of the changes to the dining plans have been reported on various websites, but very little has been officially announced or posted by Disney. Until it is official, third party restaurants such as VN, will adhere to the rules as stated in the current plan because those are the guidelines by which they are reimbursed by Disney. Since the 2015 brochure does not say you can substitute a salad (or a specific item at the restaurant's discretion), VN will not allow it since they wouldn't be reimbursed for the salad.

So far the only substitution at a TS restaurant that has been posted is someone who was offered a specific vegetable side dish in lieu of dessert at The Wave.

Did you eat at BOG for lunch? My DD won't want to eat a meal here, but she would like a cupcake (and I don't want to share mine lol). I was wondering if I could get another cupcake with my QS credit in place of my beverage? TIA :-)
