Hello all....just got around to writing this about our cruise we took on 11/29/03 Eastern Magic....I must tell you....DCL came up real big for us....on December 3rd we received a phone call or should I say a satellite call from my brother in New York that my daughter had had a seizure and was in the hospital....apparantly she had a seizure at home and was found by our UPS driver when he was making a delivery. Obviously, we were very concerned and we were in the Caribbean....We knew she was being taken care of at the hospital, and my brother was kind of supervising things, but we were very stressed. At dinner, we were talking to our server, Sasha Sakic from Croatia, and we told him about our problem. He suggested we go to Guest Services and see what they can do for us. We waited til the next morning and went down to talk to them. We explained the situation to Maria, one of the ships officers. She was very understanding and told us we could make a phone call if needed, as a matter of fact she told us to come anytime we wanted to call and make as many as we needed. Not only did they let us make the calls, but they credited the origional call into our cabin from my brother. They really helped us out, and unfortunately we needed to make many calls to find out exactly what was going on....bottom line is she was released from the hospital that Friday the 5th, and was on the last plane out of JFK in NY the next day to meet us down in Florida....she does have a tumor on her brain but they feel it will be treated with medication and if it does not change and they control the seizures, no surgery will be needed. So, the black cloud still sits over my head....we were cancelled on our cruise last November 30th....and then this...but I cannot stress it enough....DCL did the right thing by us....and we will remember it for a long time....

Wow, that is great, I am glad to see the Disney magic really does exist.
Hope everything works out with your child.

Once, I overheard a guest complaining at Guest Services about the phone charges.

One of his realitives had died when he was at sea, so DCL allowed him to make any phone calls he needed from one of the office phones for Free.

Anyways, he made additional calls from his stateroom. Those were being billed to him and DCL expected him to pay for those.

Guest Services was trying to explain to him that they had made arrangements for the calls that he needed to make and had explained to him that those needed to be made from the office and not the stateroom.

That weren't going to take them off the bill.

While I understand the guest's frustation, it sounds like the cruise line did make accomodations for him, and when he made additional calls from his stateroom, he should have expected to pay for those.

He didn't understand or figured that they would take care of those too. I bet DCL did a good job explaining how those phone calls would work, being at sea and all.

Think of it as a blessing not a dark cloud. What if she had gone on the cruise would they have been equiped to treat her? What if the UPS man did not come along? She does not need surgery and you got to make all those calls (which run like 7.00 a min. for free). It must have been terribly frightening for your family. I am so glad that everything it ok!

I'm so glad that things are looking good for your daughter. It's good to know how Disney responded in your situation, too. I hope all works out in the best possible way for your daughter.

P.S. (it seems that I've been hearing about an awful lot of people with brain tumors, including my own sister and another DISer who's young son has one :( )

I am certainly hearing more and more of it...that is what my godson Matt died from but his was cancerous while most others I know of are not. A friend of mine had one when he was 18, non cancerous and it was removed and he is 35 now and just fine.

Tom,

I'm glad DD is okay and that she can be helped with medicine. Thank goodness for the UPS delivery.

Also, kudos to DCL for helping make your awful news a little more bearable.

Let us know how your DD is doing. I'll be thinking about her.
