Hi all
Im new to these boards having just booked our wedding for February next year:cheer2:
We would like a dessert party, and were torn between Epcot and Sago Cay.
We have gone for Sago Cay because we will already be at the Grand Floridian, and thought it would save us paying for a coach and the viewing fee (as some of our guests won't have park tickets).

My questions are:

*Does anybody have any photos?
*What is the view like?
*How private is it?
*Does Wishes ever get cancelled (due to weather etc.)?

Thank you

Victoria x

We had our DP at Sago Cay on August 7th

Some of pro pics came out really blurry, so watch out. I didn't load those into photobucket, otherwise I would show you.
The view is nothing like being on Main Street, the fireworks aren't over the castle, but it's not a bad area. I really, really liked SCP. You can see the castle in all our pics. Tiny little blue thing sticking out. We had our reception at Whitehall, and just walked right across the resort to the DP. When the fireworks ended, everyone got in their car and drove home. It was so convenient.
We did not have the music piped in, and no one really noticed. Had our budget allowed it, it would have been nice, but I think you are fine without it if you need to cut a few costs.

As for privacy..if there were people out around the marina or gasparillas.. I didn't notice. They block off the area, so no one except your guests can walk up to you. And it's a pretty big area.

I am sure Wishes has been cancelled before, but usually they just push it back later.
Do you know what your backup location will be for rain? Ours was Whitehall.

We had a DP at Sago Cay for the same reason as you (our wedding was at WP and reception at GF). It turned out to be a wonderfully casual and easy end to the evening. We did have the music piped in, which was worth it IMHO. I know it's expensive, and so it's easy to cut, but for us, it really made the experience. We didn't feel like we were watching it from the outside looking in at all.

Both of your pics are gorgeous!!! I am definitely sold!!!

I also beleive I read you can have a reception there as well, with the same minimums as the dessert party, so I think I may try and do both there all at once (I have no idea if this can be done, but I will try)!!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics!

I am getting marrited in September and are having a "Dessert Party" at Sago Key Point immediately following the reception. After I went to for my site visit I really decided that I wanted to do something different. We are doing a ceremony at the WP at noon (was going to do a 2:30 but by the time I decided the 2:30 was booked) and our reception is from 4:30 - 9:30. Origianlly we were going to do a an outside pre reception at Sago Key for an hour, but we starting thinking how hot it would be outside during the day. I then asked if instead of doing a pre reception if we can do a Post-reception and have the hour so happen to fall during Wishes fireworks. They call it a "dessert party" but since it part of my 5 hour reception at the Grand, whatever I decide do do as far as beverages/food goes toward my reception minimum. I was told to know that there is a chance that it might be cancelled or postponed due to rain. I was told it would be ropped off to keep it as private as possible. We were told since it was part of the recepion officially that we would not have a set up fee or any other fees unless we decided to go above the basic linens and tables, chairs, etc and if you want to pipe in music. We were told we could serve light snacks instead of dessert. We are thinking of doing some fun snacks such a Mickey Ice Cream Bar and popcorn. I want to ask if we can do blue cotton candy to go with my theme..lol. I am going to my planning session next week and one of the nights we are there I want to watch the foreworks from the Sago Key Pointe area to see what we will be expecting. I will also be asking my planner options for the dessert party. I will let you know if I find out anything new or informative when I get back.

We had our DP at Sago Cay, it rained and Wishes was still on. Because of the rain we didn't actually have our desserts there but it was still nice to go and watch the fireworks from under umbrella's. I also liked that everything was at the Grand Floridian.

Wow, both those parties look awesome! We're still on the fence about a Disney wedding (well DF is, but I think he'll ultimately come around). We do want to do the WP and reception at the GF and a dessert party at Sago just seems so convenient! Those desserts look fabulous! And we could save $800 because DF doesn't like the wishes music, he actually does a pretty funny impression.
