Safety of a wheelchair bag

I am considering getting a bag to attach to the back of Faith's wheelchair. It would hold her extra clothes and some of her equipment.

My concern is when we are actually on rides, how safe will the bag be? I've heard of backpacks being taken out of strollers and such that are left in stroller parking. Does this happen to bags on wheelchairs also? Do many of you leave the bag attached to the chair?

Related....what kind of bag do you have? :confused3

We always take bags with us if they have something in them we do not want to lose. Occasionally, my sister will leave a bag on her chair if all it has in it is something like sunscreen, bottled water, towel, etc... She might have a separate, smaller bag inside the one on the back of her wheelchair that she keeps the important items. She takes that with her.

We always hang our backpack on the back of my chair, but NEVER leave it unattended. We keep it with us. A thief isn't going to go through the contents of a bag before deciding whether or not to steal it.

During my college program we would always tell guests who asked about bags "If you'd miss it, take it with you." Better safe than sorry.

Advice of the PPs is all good -- if you aren't willing to lose it, don't leave it behind.

If you are taking the wheelchair through the queue and will be transferring for the duration of the ride, the chair stays near the load or unload area. There is probably less likelihood of something being taken from this area than in general stroller parking, but no guarantee. I'd use a backpack that you can easily grab, or as someone else suggested -- a smaller bag to take within a larger bag that remains behind. Any valuables (wallet, camera, etc.) as well as meds, I'd keep those with me.

If losing the item will seriously negatively impact your experience, keep it with you. If you are willing to replace a waterbottle, poncho, change of clothes, etc. then you might risk leaving it.

Enjoy your vacation!

Yes, her wheelchair needs to come through the queue with us. She can stand, and walk, but not much. :)

I am leaning toward getting a bag that velcro's to the back of her chair for her extra clothes, and then keeping her meds and equipment in a separate bag to grab when we are actually on the ride.

Only 54 more days until her Wish Trip.....not that we are counting or anything. :yay::yay::yay:

We have accidentally left some pretty important stuff on the stroller... and not had a problem. There are something's that if someone were to take wouldn't be a big deal, like a change of clothes, or crumpled up ponchos that we always leave.

I made a panel for the back of his stroller with pockets for:
Sunscreen, mini first aid kit, hand wipes, hand sanitizer, chapstick, eye drops, and other basic... but I made a fabric basket underneath that button to the cross bars for change of clothes, ponchos, extra shoes. I also made a drink holder for my son that hangs from his seat, added a bag to his seat for his fidgets and made us a drink holder that fits over the bars. We all carry small backpacks. I have my son's daily meds in mine, and he has his diastat in his.

No one messed with or took anything from the stroller, but we did get stopped a lot by people saying asking where we'd gotten the additions and asking how we made them.

The only problem we've was it at POC on our first trip. The cast members 'lost' our stroller at a really bad time.

I don't know if this would work for a wheelchair, but I have a Kyss bag that I put in the basket of my ECV. There is a chain that I run through the basket and a lock for the chain and zipper.

The chain wouldn't withstand a bolt cutter, I'm sure, but this is enough to stop a casual thief from a grab and run. It's also great for poolside or at the beach, just chain it to a chair or tree.

I usually wear cargo pants and keep small important items like cash or credit cards in my pocket, but other things like meds, sunscreen, jacket, etc. go in the Kyss bag.

I kept a backpack on the back of my ECV I had it strapped to the back so it wouldn't be able to be taken easy. It has about 10 compartments so it would be obvious if someone was trying to steal stuff I didn't have a problem

Clothes should be okay I would have thought.

I left my Minnie ears on Mum's scooter often and they stayed there when we returned.

I'm going to be taking a bag to fix to the seat back of our rented scooter - probably with cable ties or something similar. If I don't go with the cable ties, it'll be some sort of cable/chain in conjunction with a combination padlock.

In it we'll keep things like ponchos, drinks, snacks, sun cream, fleeces etc. My handbag (front basket) will hold my walking stick and handbag.
