Sadly, having to cancel our Disney trip for this year :-(

Well, it is not all that bad, part of the reason is we bought a new camper, but then the truck needed work, the gas went up, in New England our heating is going to go through the roof. We could pull it off, however, we would just be putting ourselves further into debt, and the vacation would not be as enjoyable. Hopefully in the next year or two we will make it down there again once we get things straightened out.

Really sorry to hear that. We're from MA as well and have heard that the local oil companies are hesitant to set price protection plans in place because the powers that be are predicting anywhere from $3 (I wish) to $7 per gallon. Our supplier for the past dozen years just sent out a letter saying they won't do a price cap plan this year, but will gladly start taking our money this summer on a payment plan for oil we'll use this winter. Really nice of them to offer to take my money in advance.

Luckily, we only burned 500 gallons of oil last winter and have more firewood set aside this year to cut back even further.

Hope you get a chance to get to the Fort soon.

I am happy I am not the only one in this boat, but sad that others need to worry about it too. We were lucky enough to go 2 years ago and brought my daughter, but this was to be our Post honeymoon since we were married last year. Oh well, we have many other opportunities.

We are not canceling our vacation, we are just going somewhere else that will be cheaper! We will be sharing a 2 br condo on the beach in Destin with my parents and will save a ton! We bought AP's on our trip to WDW last October and went again in January. We went to Myrtle Beach in June and the fuel prices were bad but not as bad as they are now. We had planned one more trip to Disney to use our AP's before they expire. We now feel we got our money's worth out of the AP's and because of the cost of the campsite combined with the enormous cost of fuel, food and such(anything at Disney), the beach sounds awful good!

Good luck to everyone with your vacation plans. We will NOT stop going on vacations, life is too short! We will however, change our plans when and if needed(even if it almost killed me to do it! )

I would cancel this aug. trip, but
1.We bought the ap last year, and I feel the need to get my $ worth!
2.I can't convince everyone to skip a year-our dd has her dvc all booked-
(she rides with us)
3. we need to check everything out for the dd wedding next year.....
but man, gas is going to kill us! from RI, 2600 miles round trip. $4 per gallon, about 6mpg.

Sorry to hear you had to cancel - that's a definite bummer. We're booked for April, and I'm not kidding when I tell you we have cut back on everything and are saving each and every last penny to put towards our "Fort Fund".
We are from MA, too, and I would highly recommend Normandy Farms Campground in Foxborough for a "local" alternative to the Fort. VERY clean, lots and lots to do, friendly people, GREAT dog park (if you have a dog, lol), 3 outdoor pools, 1 indoor pool, great playgrounds (2), great (stocked) pond to fish, the list goes on and on. I always feel so bad when someone has to cancel, we are still going leaving tomorrow but we are cutting down a lot, especially on Disney restaurant, we used to do some character dinner, not this year, we were also planning to go to Kennedy space center and might not go there.

Sorry to hear that you had to cancel. I think I would cry for days if I had to cancel especially after convincing my DH that we need to go back(he's not as Disney crazy as me and my 19yr old twins are). We are also from Ma and have started taking walks with plastic bags in our pockets and picking out the soda cans from people's recycling bins on trash day to turn in for money for our Disney Fund. It boggles my mind on how people can throw money away like that. We also go to Normandy Farms campground for our local camping. They are as bad as Disney for popularity as we have had to make reservations for certain weekends a year in advance.

We were just at Normandy Farms the weekend after the 4th. Nice and close to home. Maybe going back in the off-season for the cheaper rates.

Sorry you had to cancel your trip. We too cancelled a trip this summer, although ours was to Myrtle Beach. We got lucky and got a campsite at our favorite local campground for the 4th of July week instead. I wish I could say "save your money" because the minute you have anything saved, something needs to be repaired again!
