That man just makes my stomach turn. I may sound mean and heartless for this, but I think they should just execute him the way he has innocent people he claims to be "helping".

He should have just been shot - he doesn't deserve a trial in my opinion. Had his people's interests at heart - what rubbish - the only interest he had was in his own.....uugghh!!!

While the first part may be satisfying on a visceral level, it would have prevented the Iraqi people from coming to a sense of closure in their long nightmare of Saddam's reign of terror. In some ways, I agree that he does not deserve a trial. There is way more evidence than needed to convict him of hundreds, maybe thousands of crimes against humanity. He forfeited his rights when he ordered whole villages destroyed, his own people gassed, raped, mutilated.

But there needs to be a trial for the sake of the people, including those who were tortured, maimed and killed while he was in power. The trial is for them, not Saddam. It is for the sake of their honor and their names that he is brought before justice and made to answer (or not as the case may be) for what he did.

Then the people he terrorized and who survived the nightmare will pass judgment on him and punish him appropriately. I feel certain he will not escape justice.

I don't condone anything Saddam did during this 20+ year reign of terror, but I believe it is vital for the people of Iraq to see him and his henchmen receive a fair trial for their crimes. The people of Iraq need to know that their country is changing for the better, even though it make take a long time to overcome all the challenges they face. The old regime should stand trial and if convicted should be properly punished.

ITA;)

Galahad- Love it!!

I just hope it doesn't turn into a three ring circus though.

Were you expecting a World Court- Ringling Bros type trial?

Like the one Milosevic is having? That's been going on three years?

Well if you really want to know..... nope, can't use those words here on the dis.

I am in full favor of him receiving a trial....I think everyone should here all the evidence they have against him. I like everyone else hope it doesn't become a 3 ring circus, but I bet he makes it that way.

LOL.

Still the President? Let's ask the Iraqi people about that.

They did on the TV last night and many people spoke up for him. They also said they wanted the U.S to leave their country and asked why G Bush wasn't on trial for war crimes too.

I thought he looked very well on TV and i can see this running and running which might not be a good thing for the U.S.

Wasn't it funny how everything was timed for the U.S networks ( morning shows ) But sure that was to be expected as we all know the U.S is pulling the strings.

OK...where does this stooge get off wearing a suit? He should be in that god awful orange jumpsuit that the other prisoners have to wear. I don't know why our guys just didn't shoot him in his hole and then drag him out and say he was dead. Better yet, shoot him to mame and then let him rot in his hole. Pardon me, but this idiot has no right to live!!

That sounds like a perfect plan. I was sure that he would be found dead:rolleyes: Can't believe that he's even made it to court. Now watch them agree w/him because they continue to be intimidated by him & put him back in power!

No surprise there. He has an arrogance that no jail can surpress.

I just wish all of this was OVER.

I couldn't agree more.

I don't see how reminding people of his crimes can possibly harm the U.S. in any way. It's pretty obvious that some people have forgotten, so let the games begin!

Nice to see you sling a dig at GWB in a thread about SH's trial.

And what war crimes would those be?

Please don't make assumptions on my behalf as I don't know (nor believe) anything of the sort.

VH/JJ, you are amazing. There's documented proof that this man committed horrible atrocities (I know, horrible is redundant) on his own people and all you can do is criticize the US for puppetering the trial and how him looking good is bad for the US.

Nice work.

Wait and see my friend

Elwood Blues come of it are you really trying to tell people, the U.S isn't running the show

VH...and if he didn't look well on tv, you would be the very first to point it out to us.

And to think, I never considered the term "my friend" an insult, until today.

So tell us jj/VH, what harm do you believe will come of reminding the world of Hussein's crimes?
