Since Sunday morning I've been working on getting our basement back in order. We had a PODS unit delivered and after pumping water out a using a wet vac also I started putting the dry boxes in the POD. Yesterday we started going through the damaged wet boxes and when my wife opened one she broke down in tears:sad1: and I couldn't stop her and I also teared up. In the box was lithos, artwork and prints all from our trips to WDW and they were soaked beyond soaked. We think they are not even salvageable if we try to dry them for the rest of the day my DW and I were in a funk about what has been damaged and trying to move on but it's tough.
I might take pictures of all the prints and email WDW and see if by chance they still have them. I know they'll never replace the memories that came with them but it might help my DW's hurt a little bit.:sad2:

Try contacting a museum or an ephemera shop. They may very well have restoration processes that can rescue some or most (or even all???) of them?

I'm sorry that you've had to deal with such a mess. Good luck with the "treasures." Hopefully, you can have more salvaged than you thought!

I so know how your wife feels. We had a fire in Nov. and lost everything. They are actually coming today to knock the house down. I've finally made some kind of peace with it but it's been 4 months. So sad to lose precious things like pictures.

Fireman and Mom2boys, sending positive thoughts and peace to you for all you've been through. You are stronger than you know.

I can relate. We put a lot of our "extras" in a storge unit when we were selling our house a few years ago . When we went to pick them up to bring to our new house, we discovered that there had been a leak in the roof and everything that was on the floor and soaked up water. I lost a lot of great books and some furnishings, but the worst part was losing my old yearbooks and memorabilia from my younger days.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I feel for you guys. A similar thing happened to us a couple of years ago when our basement flooded. There was so much stuff that just couldn't be salvaged including lithos from Disney. Sadly, we couldn't find replacement ones.

I'm so sorry for everything you have lost. We went through the same thing a few years ago. My mom said no more boxes after our basement flooded and invested in a ton of Rubbermaid bins. They claim to withstand the heat of a fire too. Since then nothing has been ruined. It might be worth it to switch over to Rubbermaid bins so you don't lose any more possessions!!

Good luck with the clean up process
