I would link to the story but you have to register on www.tcpalm.com to read it.

A man drowned last week attempting to save his brother's two children from a rip current.

This happened at Wabasso Beach which is just North of the Disney resort.

We teach our kids what to do if they get caught in a rip current but who knows if you can actually remain calm when you find yourself caught in one.

I don't know if there were signs posted about rip currents being a problem that day.

It just goes to show that you have to be very careful.

I feel so bad for his family. :grouphug: :guilty:

That is such a sad story. She must have needed all her strength and faith to give birth the day after her husband died.

Yes, such a sad story. It really makes you wonder why such horrible things happen to some. That poor family. :guilty:. :grouphug: to them.

I wanted to reply because long ago I got caught in a riptide, I think it was Huntington Beach (in Calif). By the time I had figured out (I was 18) that it was a rip tide and started swimming parallel to the beach, I was already tired.
I swam for what seemed like forever; and the fact is that I was just too embarassed to call for help. I gave it my last ditch effort and got in; but if I hadn't, I think I was then too weak to even yell for a lifeguard. After I caught my breath, I went to the lifeguard who said he'd been watching and that I looked like I knew what I was doing.

My point is that we all need to tell our kids that in situations like this, there is no call for being embarassed to ask for help. (Yet our teens probably would do the same thing I did.)

I'm so sad for this family. How very sad.

So sad. It is wonderful that the boys were saved. :grouphug:
