My DH came home from work yesterday morning and said that he had heard on the radio about a family from Manitoba, headed to WDW, and were involved in a terrible fatal car accident. The only survivor was an 8-month old baby :( Nothing on our news last night, and nothing in the national section of the paper. Just wondered if anyone else had heard about this, especially since our Cdn Dis-family is so large.

Seems to be a sad week for Canadians. For my many Dis-friends, here is a :grouphug:

It was on the news the other day here. Very sad indeed.

Of course I also found myself yelling at the TV, in a useless attempt to correct the newscasters who were saying that the family was visiting DisneyLAND, in Florida.

In Today's National Post but their online site is now subscriber only so all that is there is the following:

Manitoba boy is orphaned by van crash
A Manitoba husband and wife killed in a car crash in Missouri over the weekend had just found their dream home and were on their way to Walt Disney World to celebrate with friends visiting from Germany.

The family was from Winkler MB which is an area where many German Mennonites immigrate. They thought that the baby would end up being raised by his grandparents in Winkler but if I know the residents there, he will be raised and loved by the community.

Very sad indeed...

It was mentioned on a thread yesterday on the Community Board.

Very sad situation.

A good reminder not to try driving when you are too tired.

Yes the family was from a small town not far from here.
What a tragedy.
There was actually two children left orphaned. The other couple in the van had a infant who was not on the trip with them. So sad.

What a tragic accident! My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends.

This IS a bad week for Canadians. People in the Toronto area are still deeply saddened by the discovery of Cecilia Zhang's remains this past weekend.

I guess we all go home, kiss and hug our kids and spouses and think of our blessings (which includes Disney!).

Well said, Lynda ! My DS birthday was yesterday as well, and I really felt for Cecilia's parents as they dealt with what would have been her 10th birthday. My DD has a birthday next week, and I am so grateful that I have 2 healthy kids ... I only have ever wanted to keep them safe and healthy forever ... which is something I really have no control over :(

I have been very affected by the news of Cecilia and the orphaned baby in Manitoba. I do not have any children, but weep for the parents. What a tragedy! My thoughts are with Cecilias parents as they now must wait for the remains to say there official good-byes. All parents want to do is keep their family safe, but unfortunately, now that is not even possible in the "safety" of your own home. I am praying for those families who have lost young ones for unnecessary reasons.
