Such wonderful memories of the school. But when I graduated in 86 I was in a graduating class of almost 700 students. Enrollment for the entire school in 09/10 is 640 something.

.Alma MaterWith faith that’s strong, With courage bold, We wave our colors high, Unfurl our banner to the world, Our cross against the sky; For in this sign we conquer all, For God and school and land, With the Trinity and Mary’s love, To guide our youthful hands

Chorus:Alma Mater’s garnet and royal gold,
Sons and daughters salute you with pride;Pledging hearts to you in loyalty
We’ll bear your glory far and wide! With wisdom and truth you nourish us,
With love our souls you fortify; So dear Alma Mater,Your sons and daughters hail!
We hail Cardinal Dougherty High!

At one point in the 1960s it ( Cardinal Dougherty ) was the largest Catholic High School in the world, having over 6000 students enrolled.[citation needed] The class of 1968 had over 1200 graduates. The school has over 40,000 total graduates. Enrollment has shrunk over the years. Tuition was approaching $4000 a year a few years ago. In the 1960s it was $200 or less with half of the tuition being paid by the Parish of the student

My much smaller high school in Bayonne NJ (Holy Family Academy) is going through a crisis and may not last much longer either. It had laid a great foundation for college and my life.

My husband and I both went to CD too, Class of 1985....
Was soooo sad when I heard, but not really surprised considering the size of the property itself....

Now we are trying to plan a time to go see it one last time and maybe take
the kids to see where mom and dad went to school and met, and fell in love....:lovestruc

We have lots of good memories from there, feel sorry for the Junior class, who will have to graduate under some other school......

My sister lived right around the corner from CD on Godfrey Ave. She just moved within the lst 2 years. My other sister still lives in the neighborhood. Cousin went to CD but not of my siblings. My eldest brother when he was very small asked if CD was Heaven because of the statues out front.

DH and I are Wood grads, but it is so sad to hear about his beloved school closing. It's only a matter of time until ours closes too...

I was class of 86. I had a few friends in class of 85 though. Every time I go to my MILs we drive by to see it. Next time I am going to bring my camera.
