Sad for my sister-in-law

She's having a double mastectomy on Thursday. She has cancer in the breast that she didn't have a lumpectomy on a few years ago. So her surgeon recommended this and she had decided it's what she wanted even before she saw him today.

Hopefully, my oldest sister can go on Thursday morning and keep my brother company, and I can be there in the early afternoon. Our Mom was a breast cancer survivor and my husband's mom died of metastatic breast cancer over 35 years ago.

Is there anyone who doesn't know someone affected by this BIG C?

I'm so sorry your sister-in-law has to go through this.. It's probably the best course of action, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with..:(

I will keep her - and all of you - in my thoughts and prayers..

Never had breast cancer in my family until it hit me in 2004.
I had a mastectomy back then and now 6 years has gone by and I am almost cancer free. I have to wait 10 years because of the stage of cancer I had.
but last Thursday I finally had my implants so I am finally looking like a woman again, at least the profile, I haven't seen the finished product yet they are still wrapped, but I will see them on Thursday.
Good luck to your sister, and congratulations to your mother making it this far as a survivor. It is so good that there is so much more that can be done since your grandmother's time.

Good wishes with prayers for your sister, Julie.'s Wishing her all the best.

Marie is a 12 year cancer survivor, doing wonderful. Your sister will also.

And best with prayers for you too, Peggie, great seeing you. Hoping all is well.

Good luck to your sil and will keep her in my prayers.

My cousin just had her second mastectomy a few months ago. The first one was done 16 years ago.

My mom was diagnosed 13 months ago with breast cancer. She is almost done with her treatments. Finished radiation also about a two months ago. Her petscan was good two weeks ago. She will be fine but she has to decide when this is all over if she will have her heart valve replaced and bypass (she also has diabetes).

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer two/three months after my mom. He has too many problems so we are not doing anything (he will be 80 and not in very good health).

The biggest shocker was my sister (47). She was also just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (liver and bones) in April.

My bil just passed away in Feb. from melanoma and my very good friend and next door neighbor has been battling colon cancer for the past two years. I can go on and on. It is so sad. I don't know if it's our age, but it seems that we know way too many people that have cancer recently.

Has anyone watched the movie Food Inc. Is it the food, the environment, we don't take care of ourselves, obesity. Who knows. We can go crazy trying to reason with it.

Keeping your SIL in my thoughts and prayers this week. Thanks for being there for her. :flower3:

 God Bless your SIL. I will be keeping her in my prayers. Your family sounds like a great unit, this is fantastic. I hope everything goes as smoothly as possibly for her. :grouphug:

 to your SIL. My one year anniversary of diagnosis is coming up in a week or so. I just had to have a single mast. though with chemo and rads following. It's all doable. Listen to the positive stories, not the negative ones. For me, I laughed a lot and that kept me going. But whatever works for each individual.

I'll be thinking of your SIL and wishing her well.

Keeping your SIL and family in prayers. My sister has BC at 26 :scared1:, she lived and had to have a mastectomy. She is now doing well, though she lost her baby she was carrying due to treatment:sad1:. She then was able to become pregnant again:worship: and now has another on the way:yay:

Be there for her and help her fight like mad.

My mom said the only way she got through her mastectomy and reconstruction was to get mad... really mad. It made her fight harder.

Prayers for you all.
