As of yesterday our closing confirmation came thru and it is official we sold our SSR DVC. My wife and I have been discussing it for months and with our kids getting older and moving on to other things that will take time away from planning trips to WDW we thought it would be better to sell it rather than keep it. To us we considered it a luxury and with the economy being the way it is we are trying to save every dollar we can.
No do get us wrong, this doesn't mean we won't be taking trips back to WDW we will it'll just be in ways other than our DVC and trying to get the most out of our money just for now it will be nice having the extra money in our bank accounts to pay for other bills that we always worried about and who knows, maybe when it comes time for me to retire might look into buying again for just my wife and I. For now I'm a little down but will bounce back knowing I will be making a trip in my near future. Hopefully...::yes::

Sorry to hear that. But it's better to have the cash for your bills. Disney isn't going anywhere.

Sorry to hear that. If you want another bright side, think of how much fun the next family will have using your SSR membership. I've bought 2 resale contracts, and I often wonder how people are feeling on the selling side. Like I wish I could send them a hug in the mail and say "thank you for making dvc affordable to us, so sorry you had to sell, we will take great care of your dvc for you!"

Sent from my phone using DISBoards Ap, please excuse any typos and autocorrect mistakes.

I actually did email our sellers to say thanks for selling us the points, and that we would take good care of them. :) They sent back a nice note saying they'd enjoyed them a lot over the years and they were sure we would as well.

Hey, by buying DVC you were aboviously looking at the most cost effective way of taking WDW vacations....and this is just an extension of that if your WDW vacation habits are changing. Hopefully my wife and I will never face the sad day of selling. 3 kids, 3 contracts, they each get one. Hopefully we have instilled in them our love of Disney and they will use the memberships for years to come.

We sold our DVC over 10 years ago. I was very sad, too, when we sold it - for some of the same reasons you mentioned. I can really relate!

Since then, we've enjoyed many nice DVC vacation weeks by exchanging other timeshares we've owned (requires more flexibility and patience) into WDW and HHI DVC resorts. Cash nights may include "free dining" too, if that's your thing. Whenever we've been back at a DVC resort, I've felt especially blessed and fortunate to be able to enjoy the resorts in a different way, not just as a member. :cloud9: I'm sure you're aware of that.

Meanwhile, we also vacationed at so many other destinations around the U.S. with our pre-teens and teens! With the exception of a few western trips (Yosemite/San Fran and Grand Canyon/Sedona), most of them have been less expensive (for us) than DVC vacations as members. Our many other travels with our older kids were also rich with great new experiences and fun family time! Our "kids" are all adults now (two married, one still in college - no grandkids yet, which is fine) but they still talk about the fun trips we've taken together, both DVC and others. Even though you've sold your DVC membership, you can still look forward to many, wonderful, "magical" vacations! ::yes::

DH and I may decide to buy back in, resale, again someday but we don't feel that we need to do so at this time. It took me a little while to let go of twinges of disappointment about selling, even though, for our individual situation, it was best to sell when we did. We didn't regret buying it and we don't regret selling. Others around here have sold and repurchased within a couple years, when their circumstance changed.

Hope you get over the sad adjustment quickly! :flower3:

This is such a nice post for those who have bought. I read a post last week from a seller boasting about the price they received from their DVC points, the price they bought originally, followed by others stating basically "sucker!" That was a effective way to take the joy out of a purchase for a buyer. Your post.... MUCH better.

I'm so sorry that you had to do that. we are in the same boat. We might have to do that also. This economy does bite. May I ask how you went about doing that?

I was a long time DVC owner with 3 hefty contracts at BCV, one for each of our children. They became adults and have married and not a one wanted a contract. At the same time I've developed a travel bug and enjoy traveling to new and exotic locations.

I have sold all 3 but still have the memories of great DVC vacations. However, without children it's nicer to stay in hotels now and I've come to love BWI.

I also hope the buyers on mine enjoy BCV as much as I did. There are many ways to love Disney and I don't feel like the sale was an ending but more of new beginning.
