Hmmmm....perhaps a more precise statement would be Liberace WAS Las Vegas. "Was" as in ancient history (relatively speaking).
Not suprised to hear of the museum closing. Probably few people under 30 even know much about him; not many in the 30-60 age group find him relevant, and those over 60 likely don't care anymore.
And the museum is not located near the strip. While not difficult to find, you had to make it an intended side trip away from the strip.
And as LBIJim said, the younger generation may only even see him in re-runs of Batman, as Chandell and his evil twin Harry. Times have changed, no one remembers the great entertainers.
We're going to Vegas in two weeks - had no idea there was even a museum. I think LBI nailed it. And by the way LBI Jim - we have a house in Ship Bottom!
Steven's parents are taking us to Las Vegas, the week after the museum closes. Such a bummer we're going to miss it. Steven thinks I'm crazy to have even wanted to.
On NPR, the currator of the museum said that they were in talks with people to have the museum bought and moved to the Strip. It's so off the beaten path that they don't get the traffic it use to. Plus, he said combined with the possible reopening on the Strip, they have enough to do a traveling show as well which they're looking into.
This makes me sad. We missed it when I took my kids on the last road trip to Disneyland, they were closed the day we drove through town.
I need a t-shirt! who's up for a road trip??
poop i didnt make it in time to see the museum. If anyone wants to see videos youtube is loaded with them. What a great performer he was. I would love to see another persona such as his come to life in todays age.
