2 days till our family's longest and most awaited for trip, and bam! My sister gets the stomach flu and right now she is in the hospital getting IV fluids because she is moderately dehydrated. My mom says that they'll release her today if she stops vomiting or the worst case would be keeping her in the hospital till friday. (That's the day we leave!!) I was supposed to start packing today, but I'm feeling down, because my sis is in the hospital, and second because I was so excited for this trip and i dont wanna pack if i dont know for sure if we are going or not. I need some cheering up. Has anybody been in this situation? How long does stomach flu last? :( :( :(

I'm doing the sad dance...

oh no!...I hope your sister feels better soon. When my DH had the flu and he was dehydrated, he felt awful, and then as soon as he got his bag of fluids, he felt so much better and was able to get over it quicker.

I hope that is the case with your Sis and that you get to go to DL.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister, PigletGurl. :worried:

We will be in DL on Friday & I'll be sending you :goodvibes (good vibes) & hoping you are there too!

Keep your chin up!!! Imagine how your sister feels!!! Be the best sister you possibly can be and your positive attitude will help your sister feel better too. Don't delay packing, you will need to help her pack too. :thumbsup2 I'm praying that you are able to go and enjoy the magic :wizard: of DL.

I had the stomach flu a few months ago! Ick! It was horrible, but recovered rather quickly. I hope your sister feels better soon and you can both enjoy DL!

I am so sorry for your sister and you! Once she gets some fluids in her, she'll probably perk up pretty quickly. Especially since she's a kid, I know when my son or daughter (they are 11 and 13) get sick, I am amazed at how quickly they recover. Versus their old parents who generally feel crummy a lot longer! Make sure you guys air out the house, wash your hands a lot and stay healthy the rest of you! Let us know how it works out. Are you flying or driving? If you are driving at least you can postpone the trip a few days. I really hope it all works out, sending some prayers your way.

Thank you everyone for your good thoughs. Right now it's 11:30 am where I live, and my mom and I are keeping in touch by texting, since talking on the cell disrupts other patients. Apparently, she's pretty much the same, and I think shes only vomited once or twice since she arrived at the hospital (6am).
So I'm in charge of the house now. I'm 18 and my dad's on a business trip due to arrive tomorrow (hopefully). It'll be very difficult to reschedule trip because we live in Puerto Rico and it's really far away, and we use my dad's miles to get our tickets, so spaces are limited. My mom said that if something shoud happen that my sis will be kept in hospital till friday, that maybe dad and I could fly out before them and my mom and sis could meet us monday perhaps (awards tickets increase availability of space when theres only 2 people in your party) so its a big possibility that they could find two spots on a plane come monday. (we're traveling though american airlines). My mom's gonna update me every hour or so, and if everything goes well they'll release her this afternoon, at least thats what the doc told them. Pray for us! Thanks

I hope your sister is better soon and they can either go with you guys or meet you there. I'd go ahead and pack, you never know, she may be home any time now! :)

I would pack for you and her. have everything ready when she gets home. you have two days she should be half well by then she might still fill drozy or tierd but the hospital will help her get over it faster then some. my son had it for 3 days bad and then ok buyt really tierd for 3 days. my DH had it for 2 days then was fine

My visit last weekend was up in the air for about 2 weeks, so I hope your sister gets better. I would pack for the trip, especially considering what your mother said. Hopefully your sister gets better and everything proceeds as planned.

Really feel for you, Pigletgurl! Pack and hope for the best!

When we went, my DD13 got sick on the way there. Same thing, stomach flu, nauseated-- the first morning, we got up for MM, and she ran for the bathroom and vomited. So our whole trip was spent switching off with her in the hotel room, me and my DH, and taking the other two girls to the parks. She would get better in the afternoons and go to the parks for awhile, then crash again, and woke up a little bit worse every morning. We got back Friday night and by Saturday she was so dehydrated they gave her 2 IV bags of fluid at the doctor's office. It took her 4 days to feel better.

That is cool though that your dad might take you, and maybe mom and sis can join you later. Can I suggest, though, to be sure and let your sis know that you don't hold it against her that she got sick and made your vacation plans go haywire! I know my DD felt SO bad for "holding us back" and "ruining our vacation" as she put it-- we spent so much time telling her that it didn't matter as long as she got better! It's hard not to feel resentment, depression, and sadness when your dream vacation gets derailed. I'm sure you would never SAY anything like that to your sis, but it's ok to feel it, right?

I'll be hoping and praying for you that your wonderful vacation gets back on track, and your sister feels better! :goodvibes

THanks! I do recall reading about how ur DD got sick/ That must have been terrible getting sick on the way there. Well, at least my sis has two days to get better. I hope she does. It's so hard to find miles flights that i do think its better to split up our party. As long as its just an ordinary stomach flu, its ok. To think that it could have been worse!

Another Update: Mom said that theres a possiblity they might keep her overnight, since she recently vomited something that somewhat look like bile...but they dont know for sure.

Stomach flus are just the worst! Because I have other health problems that go along with my digestive system, when I get the flu it's always really bad. Always lands me in the hospital, to get medication and IV fluids. But the longest I've been admitted for it was over night. The fluids and meds really always get me back on track very quickly. So my fingers are crossed that it will be the same for your sister.

I'd pack, and pack for her too. She'll probably be weak for a few days, and will appreciate the help! Have a wonderful vacation, and I hope everyone else stays healthy!

PigletGurl.......My good thoughts and prayers are with you, your sister, and your family. Fluids are the best thing for her. Try to keep the Disney magic close at heart. I have a feeling all of you will be on the plane this Friday. ;)

I'll be crossing my fingers, (and toes, and eyes... anything crossable!) that you're able to go on Friday!

Sending healthy thoughts your way!!! pixiedust: I hope it all turns out well.

Thanks again everyone! :) You're prayers really are helping.

UPDATE: Sister tested negative for pancreatitis and doctors figures its just normal stomach flu and shes just in the hospital for dehydration and low grade fever. Doctor said that if her fever goes back to normal shell be released. Still my dad is going to call for available flights during the weekend. The hotel part is easy, its the flights that are just grrr hard to find. Well, ill update later.

UPDATE: Okay, I got a call from mom and theyve RELEASED HER! We are going to Disney!!! That is of course if she doesn't relapse. Im praying soo hard right now...

Woohoo!! :hyper: She'll probably need a little TLC after her ordeal. Have a wonderful time!
