S3IS distribution software?

Does anyone know where I can get a copy the original disk of software provided by Canon for the S3? My drive crashed and I lost my applications. Needless to say I can't find the install disk to put it all back.

The Canon site does not appear to offer the software.... only an upgrade to the software . Can't upgrade what you don't have!

All thoughts appreciated....

do you mean the "zoombrowser" software?

I never installed the Canon disk that came with my S5. I already had photoshop, panorama, etc. There are lots of free software for various photo editing functions so I never saw any need for it.

what do you need the Canon program for ?

Utilize the Canon software here if you have lost the CD / install disk that came with your Canon digital camera and need a base install. Unfortunately the updates available from Canon will not install without a base install (no matter how old or out of date). Installing this old version of the Canon ZoomBrowser EX will then allow you to go to the Canon site and apply the upgrade for ZoomBrowser EX - then you will have the most recent version of the ZB.

I never installed the Canon disk that came with my S5. I already had photoshop, panorama, etc. There are lots of free software for various photo editing functions so I never saw any need for it.

I really got used to the way the Zoom Browser automatically downloaded and organized my photos when I plugged in my cable. I was very happy with the way that worked. I miss it!

That said, I wanted to put it back. I realize that I can pull the memory card (as I have done) and just read off the files, but the way it organized the shots automatically was just what I was looking for.

I wouldn't think it would have to be specifically for the S3 if you want to use the zoom Browser. I have it from my S2 but use it w/all my cameras because I like how it organizes too. DH says to do a search for it on download.com.

A semi-related question re Zoom Browser (which I use all the time for downloading and organizing my photos): The one thing I don't like is that I can't crop photos - or maybe I'm doing it wrong? For instance, if I have a 4x6 horizontal photo and want to crop it to a 4x6 vertical, I can't figure out how to do it. Whenever I go into Edit and select trim, all I get is sizes for the trim area in pixels. I looked in all the preference settings and can't find a way to tell it to show me the sizes in inches. What am I doing wrong? Whenever I want to crop a photo, I have to take it into Photoshop Elements to crop it. Not a bad thing if there are other changes I want to make, but it's a pain in the butt when all I want is to crop!

Any help?

ZoomBrowser 6 introduced Trimming (cropping) and should fulfuill your needs. Goto usa.canon.com support and look up your camera type. Check out the latest software updates. ZoomBrowser 6.1 should be listed.

Yes, I updated to the latest Zoom Browser, but under Trimming, it still shows the picture size in pixels, not inches. I need to know that I'm trimming/cropping to 4x6, not 1234x6789 pixels; the pixels mean nothing to me. Am I missing something, is there some place you can change your preferences to show the dimensions in inches rather than pixels?

Normally, you size a photo during output, such as to a printer. You crop a photo to make the image display only the area you want to print, then, in the printer settings, you set the size you want printed. Inches in digital format does not really mean anything. Proportion is more important.

The kind of cropping I frequently find myself doing is taking a horizontal 4x6 and cropping it to a vertical 4x6. Photoshop is good because I can choose my aspect ratio and crop/resize and know it'll print out ok. ZoomBrowser confused me because it would only show pixels.

BUT....I just looked again at the trimming tool dialog box. Under the Advanced button, there was an option to choose the aspect ratio and this will work for me - 3:2 (or is it 2:3?) will allow me to crop from horizontal to vertical and know that it'll print out ok on 4x6 photo paper.

So now I know how to do it in Zoom Browser, and I'm a happy puppy. As much as I like all the things Photoshop Elements can do, I like having a simple way to do a simple thing like cropping, and I can save Elements for more involved photo editing.
