We are in the process of deciding on a trip this year. DH and I plus DS 13,11,5 and DD8. We have always stayed in a 2bdrm. Since the reassignment of points a few years ago we are now short of our usual 6 nights covered on points.

However we can do 2 studios and have it completely covered (using 9 one time points from disney). We know we won't have the full size kitchen and W/D.

?'s we have--- studio has a small refrigerator- will it hold a gallon of milk?? if so how much more room is left for other things?? Can the freezer section hold a box of waffles?? or bottles of water?? and does it really freeze them? We travel in August and DH loves to freeze a squirt bottle to keep us cool during the day.

How many W/D are there by the pool area?? We are accustom to coming home with mostly clean clothes. The prospect of 9 days of dirty clothes from 6 people is rather scary!!:scared1::scared1:

I know we may not be near each other but that is okay. Our DC are spaced enought that earlier bedtime for some would be possible.

Any assistance would be great.

OKW Studios have 2 beds, so no pull outs! That is a bonus compared to other studios.

There is a small frig, think dorm size. The freezer part is not big at all and I would not freeze a lot it in. However, we always put our fridge on the coldest setting and the top shelf pretty much stays frozen. We kept hamburger meat and such there. Worked like a champ. You can fit some coke cans or water bottles up in the tiny freezer. Maybe break up a box of waffles and freeze them that way?

You can also buy regular waffles that do not need to be in the cold. Costcos has my favorite.

Never tried a gallon of milk but 2 half gallons fit fine.

There are W/D near the pool. Never used them though.

I agree with Emagine, we have put the ref. setting to coldest and everything on the top shelf and on the door shelf froze including the water. Be careful of canned soda as we had a problem with them freezing and exploding. We had a real mess inside the refrig but did clean it ourself instead of leaving it for housekeeping. I do not think a gallon of milk will fit in the refrig.

Are you sure you want to split up the two of you into two different studios for the entire stay? Studios at OKW are usually on the ends of the building, so you might be on two different ends or two different floors. You cannot put the kids into one studio and mom and dad into the other. So you could do Dad with the three boys and mom with the daughter. Or Dad with the two older boys and mom with the daughter and younger son.

A gallon will fit if you remove the lowest shelf in the refrigerator. There are 2 washers and 4 dryers by each pool.

When you make your reservation, have them give you a "travel with" number. That will help get your rooms closer together; that's the theory anyway.

Thanks for all the great information. DH was very hesitant to get the studios. He is concerned we would not be near each other. Plus the laundry issue scares me. We will have 10 days of dirty clothing. I know what it looks like when I skip a few days at home! can't imagine what it would look like on vacation!!

DH left for work today saying to book the 2 bdrm on his way out the door. :wizard: THanks for the help. I will file the info away for the next time we go.

Thanks!!! The 'it's not happening trip' is happening!!

you might even be in 2 different building - which would be a big pain.

now the clothes thing is not a problem - just on the day when you go visit the swimming pool - do the clothes.

or get up early one morning and do the clothes - there are free laundry mats at all the pools at OKW. These are biiger than the ones in your villa.

you just don't get to leave them while you go to the parks.... so getting up early generally works for me.

you know the more I think about it I am not sure if we should go with a 2bdrm. I am such on the fence about this. Good to know there are mulitple W/D at the pools. I could get 2 loads done at once. We dont' aways get pool time in so that could be a problem.

Good to know that a gallon of milk will fit w/o the shelf. and keeping it colder than normal.

The cost is the big thing. We would just have to buy 9 one time pts from disney vs paying cash for the weekends on the 2 bdrm plus 9 points from disney.

I kindof want to try it but afraid it might turn into a disaster. Like being on opposite sides of the resort. :scared1:

gonna sleep on it but keep up the great info!

I would just transfer in a few points from another owner. The loss of the kitchen, will cost a lot more than the points, and this is from someone who is typically very frugal with points. 2 or 3 days I would do the studio, but no way for 9 days.

FWIW, I woud bite the bullet and go with the 2br. I wouldn't want to take the chance of location with the 2 studios. Let us know what you decide.

Have a great time!

We usually stay In a one bed and we stayed in a studi two trips ago and really missed the kitchen for breakfast and drinks and having the space to sit on the couch etc. But we are not comando type park goers. We like to have down time. We will be in reg moderate room this trip for the first 5 nights and I know we won't be happy but we don't have the points and I am nurvous to do a transfer

how would I find points to purchase? We would need 93 total to cover the weekends. We generally pay cash for the weekends.

We ended up booking 2 studios!! Orginally going to do the 2 bdrm after much debate but there was no longer a cash discount rate to the nights we needed to pay cash for. The savings on the studio is huge. I know we will be in smaller space but it is doable. Dh and I will split the kids up which will work too. I hope to spend more park time in the evening so the studio is pretty much for sleeping.

What breakfast options are there at OKW? We always eat in our room and not sure if we will as much since we lack a freezer of a decent size. We also have the resort mugs w/ the ddp but not sure if they will do us any good bc of the layout of the resort.

I am excited about returning for our 8th annual family trip. I told MS when asked what we were celebrating-- our 17th anniversary-- in 2 seperate studios!!

Any ideas on making the studios work for storage or food would be great!

thanks for all the input.

If you like the frozen breakfast sandwiches- we eat the ones that are bisquits and sausage by Jimmy Dean- I have fit at least 8-10 of the snack size packs (2 in each) into the OKW freezer. Other times I buy the boxed sausage patties (and get rid of the boxes and use ziplock bags for storing them in the freezer) and English Muffins (which can be kept on the counter for breakfast. Also poptarts while not super healthy are an easy snack/breakfast that doesn't need refrigeration. You can also get a loaf of bread and deli meat for simple sandwich meals (the meat doesn't take up too much space and you will have 2 fridges even though they are small).
