S/O - So you may not kiss hello… how about a hug?

Kissing someone hello seems to be a largely European thing… but what about a hug hello?

Hugs are used for family and friends here. I wouldn’t hug an acquaintance or someone who I did not have a close relationship with. Definitely hug a SO.

I probably have offended a few people recently with hugs. Seems they too are politically incorrect, unless you ask first if you can give someone a hug. Too much harassment and unwelcome touching training. I was shocked when a close friend, ASKED first before offering a hug 11 years ago when my mom passed away. Just not the same as a spontaneous hug.

Definitely not a hugger AT ALL. I don’t like it, and it feels like my personal space is being invaded. I kiss like the French, both sides of the cheek .

I do a hug/ kiss on the cheek with family/close friends either greating, saying goodbye or both.

No thanks, and by that I mean "get off me"!! Hugs and kisses are for expressing my love to those very close to me, not part of some social convention.

We are Australian and our 17yo son joined an American-Mexican sports team when he was 15. From the second time we saw them in person (back then we travelled to & fro every 6wks or so) we were given the biggest hugs from everyone on the team - from the owners & fellow team members / parents down to the mechanics / tyre fitters. The series commentator even gives us massive hugs when we see him.

Here in Australia we hug all our close friends alongside our families. My Mum I see once or twice a week, I kiss her hello and goodbye. My MIL I see daily so I only hug / kiss her on celebrations or if she’s sad - but she’s not a hugely demonstrative person, our kids hug her every time they see her even if it’s daily.

I grew up in a very "huggy" family. Huggers are safe with me.

Immediate family only. It truly repulses me to be touched by anyone else. Handshakes are fine.
