9 times out of 10 it's the person in question that ends up horizontal.

I've never met anyone who has ever done this IRL. I always assumed it was something from the movies.

Cows don't usually sleep standing. A farmer would shoot anyone in the field trying to tip one. And cows are really heavy.

I always thought of Cow Tipping as riling up the steers so they chase the unsuspecting Noob while everyone laughs at him. Cows have 4 legs and can easily counter balance.

Exactly this. We’d send someone in the field and tell them to give it a try and then send the animals running.

Right. It's an urban legend (rural legend?). A sleeping cow woulb be lying down anyway, and if kids were messing with an awake cow there might be trouble - an average cow weighs 1,200 pounds!
