Hello all you Western Cruisers -- We are thinking about booking Capt Marvins -and doing Stingray City on our own -- What are your suggestions for best time to do the excursion.

Also, did any of you do anything else on Grand Cayman - we would like to go to the Turtle Farm - and to "Hell" (I know it's not supposed to be much - but hopefully it will be the only chance we have to go "there" and our son's think it will be neat! If you did are there taxis - could you give me some ideas and tips!

Thanks,
Sher

I just did Capt. Marvin's and we did the 10 o'clock tour, which worked out great. We checked in, and then had about an hour to an hour & a half to shop around a bit, before being shuttled to the dock. The other two stops before Stingray City are great too.

I don't know how anyone could do an earlier tour. We were on one of the first independent guests' tenders over!

how far in advance do you book captian marvin's ? do you do it over the internet? Is your credit card charged right away or when you do the excursion. Also, if our son(9) gets scared can he stay on the boat? thanks Ann

I was also on the 8/3 Magic cruise with Mtdewbuzz, but we took the 11:15 to 1:15 Capt. Marvin tour. It was fantastic. No frills, but the same stingray experience as other tours.

I booked on 8/2 for a 8/6 excursion. I booked from home online and could not access my mail account until I signed up for the internet cafe onboard. I then checked my mail and was confirmed for the 6th. We were a party of 8.

I asked at the Capt. Marvins desk about the 8:30 to 10:30 excursion and she said she did not think anyone from the Magic could make it that early due to the time Disney let's people off the ship.

It was about a 10 minute walk from the tender to Capt. Marvins. It was then about a 15 minute van ride to the boat. We actually pulled into someone's backyard where the boat was tied up. Like I said, no frills, but a great stingray experience. Our capt. was named Marlon and he had a young assistant with him. They were both very personable and very knowledgeable about the stingrays. They let us each hold them and we really had a fantastic time. We stopped in two place, one to snorkel and then the stingray area.

The price was $34 per adult and $20 under 12. I definitely recommend this tour.

Ok, now you have me worried!

We are signed up for the 8:30 Capt. Marvin's excursion. I was led to believe that we can get off the ship early enough to make it.

Not so???

We were one of the first off and we were at captain Marvin's for 8.15am and we were booked for the 9/9.30am trip!

Beano- I'm not sure. It will be cutting it close I'd say.
Maybe just send them an e-mail & see what they think.

...Or camp out in the Walt Disney Theatre overnight to make sure that you are on the very first tender in. :jester:

Don't worry! I was on the 8/3 Western also, and had a 8:30am excursion booked with Red Baron Charters. All eight of us tendered to shore on the 7:40am tender for those without a DCL excursion (Tendering didn't start until 7:30am). Made it to the boat slip by 8:20am. Right on time for our excursion.

We had a great time on our Red Baron Charter. Just 8 of us on a small boat. We went to stingray city and the coral reefs, and no one was around in our location. Back to the terminal to pick up the tender by 12:15pm and back on ship by 12:30pm.

Regarding Capt. Marvin's.....what is the web address for online booking and more info?

I e-mailed Capt. Marvins a couple of weeks ago and they said that they had not had any problems so far with DCL folks getting there. They said if we were late that they would work us in on a later tour.
Beano - I will be sure and let you know how I do.

Shercara:We did the DCL excursion where we did a bus tour of Grand Cayman that included Hell and the Turtle Farm in the morning. We then did the afternoon Capt Marvin's. I have to say that it was too much for 1 day. We didn't have time to go back to the ship to eat and had to grab some fast food-thank goodness we took our swimsuits or we would have never made it. We were exhausted by the end of the day-too much running around. I'd pick one or the other-my choice would be stingray city.
