hi, i have a few questions on maw. how do you first go about getting a maw trip? do you go through that website, or through your child's particular foundation? do you get to pick exactly where your child wants to go and also the hotel where you stay? how is it determined how long you stay? what has been included for you? (meals, a car or ride from the airport, etc) one last question, about how long has it taken you to get confirmed for your trip? thank you for your help.

Anyone can refer a child to Make a Wish. Go to their site (google make a wish) and you'll see where you can refer. You have to have the consent of the parents first. There will be a form to fill out. Once the child is approved a volunteer will contact you about what the child's wish is. Karen

The parent is not the one who picks where the child (and the family) goes. It is the child who makes the wish!

I did not contact MAW, my child's doctor referred him. She filled out all the intial paperwork and then about two weeks later some volunteers came to our house for us to feel out more paperwork and hear what my son's wish was.

We will be going on our Wish trip next month. We did not get to decide where we wanted to stay, but we will be staying at GKTW and I heard that is was a totally magical place.

Depending on your MAW organization, you have a choice on where you want to stay. My daugher's wish trip is next month also and we wanted to stay on Disney property and just do WDW for the week. Not interested in going to Universal or Sea World. Remember, MAW is about doing what your child wants - don't be afraid to ask for just that!

From everything I have read, how fast you get confirmed for your child's wish is going to depend on just what the wish turns out to be and also on the condition of the child. As the others said, MAW tries very hard to be clear on what the child wishes for so they can fulfill the child's wish.

For example, a trip to WDW is a common wish, so they already have a lot of things set. It's just a matter of connecting all the dots together. Some wishes are harder to put together - like if the child's wish was to see a particular celebrity or do something less common, it may take longer to set up.
They try to get the wish started as soon as they get a referral, but sometimes kids are in condition that they need the wish granted right away or it may be too late. In situations like that, they will move very quickly.

And, a wish doesn't have to be a trip. I know of children who wished for something like a stage to be built in their basement with performance lights and instruments so they could live out a wish to be a rock star.
