Can anyone tell me what constitues a "group" and what benefits there are to booking as a group? We have the potential for a group of 24 or more and would like to know if it makes sense to book together. TIA
Not sure if this will help - may be only my TA that works this way but I'm pretty sure he said it was coming straight from Disney -
It's based on the # of cabins, not people, that you book. We are going in a group and have 7 cabins booked - unfortunately, we need 8 to get the group discount
I was told the discount would be one cabin free, divided among the 8 bookings...they take an average of the types of categories booked and divide it among the bookings. It MAY have been one FREE person's rate but I think it was the cabin
Anyway, doesn't really matter to me now since we didn't make the quota!
Usually most cruise lines offer a 1 for 15, meaning with 15 people booked the 16th persons cruise fee is free. They will usually still be required to pay port charges and govt. fees.
Can't speak directly for Disney, but on our upcoming cruise in Sept. I have a group of 17 going. Not only did we get a discounted cabin rate, but the 1 for 15, a $100 per cabin credit, a photo coupon good toward one professional photo and a one hour cocktail party. Obviously this is not a Disney cruise.
If you've got enough people interested Jillie, call and ask about discounts and amenities for groups. And from experience now, specifically ask about onboard credits and perks.
I called DCL last month about this very issue. I was disappointed in what the group sales representative told me:
The miniumum "group" was 8 cabins. The booking must be made all at once. For that, they would provide each cabin with a $50 per room credit and a free "gift." (The gift was choice of things like a bottle of wine, or a snack basket.)
I was shocked at the general lack of benefit given to large groups.
