Ryno was right about AK sidewalks!

It took me a couple of years before I realized why AK is my least favorite park but it is the sidewalks.

They aren't wide enough and can, in places, just fit a just a few across. There also isn't a lot of places to pull over so to speak and look at a map. Not to mention it isn't straight like the WS. (I know it is meant to recreate natural paths but it is terrible crowd management.)

It takes forever to walk around because it is impossible to pass the slow moving foot traffic. Plus, there is the natural slow down in traffic when 8 people across narrows to 4 across, like trying to get into the Lincoln tunnel.

You really need to watch where you are walking and I find it impossible to just amble around and look at the beautiful themeing when you really need to concentrate on walking.

I saw the worst scooter accident there a couple of years ago. A family stops to look at a map right when it narrows (natch) and the only way to go around them is single file on the left or right but since there is no law that everyone go left people start to pass them single file on both the right and left in both directions. It was a huge traffic jam. So a woman stops short to avoid slamming straight into another guest coming at her but the scooter behind her couldn't stop that quickly and took out her ankle. She went down like she was shot. I felt sorry for everyone involved.

Those sidewalks are not meant for any sort of crowd. I'd like to hear how long it took for others to exit Rivers of Light. I bet this will turn into a big issue.

Yeah, Disneyland has a couple of pinch points that can literally ground to a complete halt and cast members have to come untangle people.
I didn't hear Ryno mention about AK sidewalks, lately I have been distracted by his hair which is always completely perfect, looks freshly cut and styled, especially lately. He has been rocking a very trendy style overall and so I miss a lot of what he says.

I love Ryno's hair. I recall one tweet where he was debating what to do with his hair and my response was that as someone who is folically challenged, please don't do anything drastic!

It is the worst during the runDisney races. The worst time is during or after rain. Some of the paths are uneven and get slippery and I've rolled my ankle a time or two on them. The most irritating is the Asia section. I don't have issues at any other parts of the park but going from the Safari to Everest has so many bottle necks.

I agree with the OP but completely understand what the designers of the park were going for. AK is probably much more enjoyable in the slower, cooler seasons but I wouldn't know because I'm married to a teacher and we only go to WDW in the summer. AK can be especially difficult at that time of year imo with the excessive heat, abundant vegetation and congested sidewalks for sure! I still enjoy it though...

I should clarify. He didn't mention the sidewalks directly rather, leaving ROL to get to his car which was parked rather close took 45 minutes to walk even though he was trying hard to leave quickly. I made the jump to it is the sidewalks. I could be wrong.

AK seems to magnify the Florida heat too somehow. Definitely agree about the pinch points around the park. Wonder if they plan to do something about it? Can only see it becoming more of a problem, with the extra crowds that Avatar and ROL are bound to bring in.

Agree, his hair is always on fleek! :)

I have considered on several occasions of bringing a picture of him to the hair salon and just asking for them to give me his haircut. I don't know if I could pull it off, but it's exactly what I want.

OMG, I am old, I have no idea what "fleek" means. I would assume something bad except Heidi is always nice and there is the happy emoji, so I will translate it to mean good in slang. haha.

Yeah, the pompadour hairstyle is really popular right now. I think he should do a Dispop with his barber, whoever they are is very talented.

Ha, New Orleans Square, especially on the side of PotC.

I agree re AK try it in a power chair the flooring is also lovely theming with fossils etc cut into it to make it look nice. But in a wheelchair holy moly it's like a ride in itself! It is also quite sloped when you first go in. I love the park but it the least one we visit because it is the least accessible.

I am the least "hip" person there is but I understand "on fleek" to be like saying that is "on point" or tight or well put together.

A quick google search shows that it started by someone referring to how well groomed her eyebrows were

Pinch points! Exactly the phrase I was looking for!

And yes! Ryno is styling!

Heidi is always nice

Hee hee hee - shows you don't really KNOW me!!

But yes, "on fleek" is good in Millenial Speak. (And don't feel bad - I had to ask what it was the first time I heard it!!) :) Matter of fact, the very first time I think I heard it was JL, on one of the podcasts, and then I think shortly thereafter it was on Empire. After that, I've heard it quite a few other places. And as Max said, it originally referred to just eyebrows, but (as far as I know, and have always heard it used) it's everything that's (as he said) "on point, or just right, etc." now. And believe me - I ain't young neither - I am staring straight into the cateracted eyes of 60 sooner than I am 50, fo' sho'!! :rotfl2:

I'm fine with the walkways at AK. I seem to get around the place fine.

I'm sure leaving after Rivers of Light is a nightmare. But frankly, leaving any of the parks at closing or after a major event (fireworks, parade, etc.) is a nightmare. It's to be expected that thousands of people leaving any one place at the same time will jam up the infrastructure. It's no different than rush hour traffic on your local interstate.

Using a wheelchair in AK (or on Main Street USA for that matter) can be very difficult. They need some kind of suspension. One trick I learned to help with crowds is to go into Island Traders and buy one or two of those fake spears and hold them like lances. Until Disney gives me back that air horn they confiscated from me, I'm afraid I must use the threat of violence.
