I thought you had to be a "reformed" terrorist or an environmentalist that owns a tobacco farm in order to get this honor? Well he is a "reformed" drug addict so maybe they are relaxing the standards some. Still though if he was responsible for some suicide bombings somewhere in his past I could really see it. Although a blow hard/egomaniac, I just don't see his transgressions arising to the level of warranting a Nobel Peace Prize.

Nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize is by invitation only. The Nobel Committee sends confidential forms to persons who are competent and qualified to nominate. The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.

The right to submit proposals for the Nobel Peace Prize, based on the principle of competence and universality, shall by statute be enjoyed by:

1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;
3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes;
4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1) and
7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

Somehow I doubt that this group meets these standards. Vice President Gore on the other hand was nominated by two members of parliment and is a real nominee.

If you really think that rush was legitimately nominated for the award by a qualified body, I have a bridge that you may want to buy.

The Nobel Institute expanded the nomination rules in 2003 and since you don't know which category Landmark Legal Foundation falls under, perhaps you are being somewhat premature in your determination that the nomination is not "from a qualified source".

I think the use of Marc Levin's name and law firm was enough of a tipoff as to the satirical nature of Rush's nomination.

Didn't he do that with the ACLU for a while why they were fighting for his rights with his Oxycontin/doctor shopping charges in Florida? Not that he became the #1 fan of the organization, he just laid off of them while they fought for his right to privacy.

I am a member of the ACLU and was glad to see that the organization came to the aid of rush in this case. Without the aid of the ACLU, rush could have easily had his rights violated.
